I'm ready to tackle this (again ). I used the Baker Precision on my last FD with good results. I've read some of High Temp Silicone's posts and he seems to be providing quality product. I figure 30 or so ft of 4mm and 15 ft of 6mm from Baker should do the trick ($66) what does High Temp Silicone charge for a similar set of hoses (I can't see justifying spending $118 plus shipping at HoseTechniques for the kit when I've got the Sears hose cutter and zip ties already)? I noticed that HoseTechniques use 3.5mm and 4mm, why the 2 sizes? Does 3.5mm work better than the standard 3.5mm?

I've been using Baker hoses and love them. I'm sure High Temp's products are good but I'm not switching until the Baker stuff lets me down.

My Baker Hoses even lived through a small engine fire...

I didn't zip tie or glue them on. Just cut them and pushed them on. Never had one come off. Ever.

I've bought hose from Hose Techniques and High Temp Silicone in the past. HTS, I believe, used to supply hose to Hose Techniques - it's the same stuff. VERY high quality, thick walls, won't kink or anything.

Definitely get the 3.5mm for the small hose - it fits nice and tight, and will stay put. 4mm is a little looser, but it's mainly for other cars where it's a better fit. For us, 3.5mm is the best fit.

HTS is a class act - top quality, and I got it in no time flat.

I used Baker's hose in 4mm, 6mm, 8mm & 10mm. I even used them for the water lines. I wish I would have gotten HTS for the water lines but couldn't wait and I wasn't sure if I could afford it at the time. I have no idea what 3.5mm is used for as the 4mm fit snug on all the small nipples. The Baker hose is extremely thick in 4mm but gets thinner as the OD gets larger. I have no idea how thick the High Temp Silicone hose is.

There are definately a few runs that should be HTS "Viton": two lines to oil injectors, line to FPR and/or FPD (can't remember if it's one or both), water hoses (if you replace with silicone).

High Temp Silicone

Here are our wall thickness's on our products.

3.5MM x .105" wall (Most commonly used)
4.0MM x .067" wall
6.0MM x .105" wall (#2 most common)
8.0MM x .116" wall
10MM x .131" wall

Warranty on our reinforced silicone hose is lifetime replacement if you use our clamps. Warranty on our Viton is 3 year replacement.

I suggest buying straight from HTS and getting the Si and a little bit of 3.5 and 4.0mm viton. He'll sell whatever lengths you want in whatever sizes you want. Get your Si from him too, since I know for a fact it's cheaper than the rest and made from the highest performing blend of Silicone ingredients.

You can run the viton down in the hot areas and around the injectors to add a little insurance against oil and gas vapor breakdown. I found that 60% of the standard FD 'kit' is all I needed, but having spare is a great idea and I skipped running new wiper lines. I also recommend getting some hose adapters (www.mcmaster.com) that will jump from a 4mm to 6mm hose. About 6 of those will make your life much easier.

Personally, I found the all viton solution from HTS rocks, but I can understand if you don't want to spend the $$ or prefer a color other than flat black. The viton does not require any zip ties IMO because it grips so well.

That hose is not meant for water lines! Replace it again with original rubber hoses or buy proper silicone hose that is reinforced.
