Question Badge Adhesion

I'm redoing the badges on our '93 FD. Is there a "best" way to adhere them?

The dealer suggested 3M yellow weatherstrip seal as an adhesive.

We did one using this. Seems tight enough, but a lot of cleanup for the oozing sealant.

Thanks

3M double sided tape which can be purchased at your local auto store. This is what's commonly used by the manufacturer of most emblems but, seeing that you did not get the tape affixed to your emblems, you will have to do alot of detail trimming with an x-acto knife.

This is the stuff DigDug posted........

Now there are two different kinds of this double sided mounting tape. One is a clear rubber type tape, and the other is a grey foam tape. You want the grey foam tape as the clear sucks.

I use the grey commercial grade tape in my tint shop all the time. I use it for cars that have those stupid antennas mounted to the rear window. I removed them to tint the window, and then I use this tape to mount the antenna back on. Automatic car washes beat them to death and of the 100+ I have removed over the years, I have NEVER had a single customer come back saying their antenna fell off.

I'm pretty sure a little emblem will be fine, just trim it to fit. Let it sit for a day or two so it can properly adhere so you don't snag it will a towel or something and peel it back. I doubt it would move, but just in case.

You need to use 3M Press-In-Place Emblem Adhesive. Nothing else works as good. Just goto a local body shop and ask them for it. Or just google it...and see who has it the cheapest.

Can you use the 3M on the flying Mazda emblem? I took it off a mates car and the sides are rather small.

You can with the stuff i posted. Its super thin and you can trim the sides with a razor.

Thanks for the help!

I just refinished one of my eternal flames with chrome paint, looks just like the new one I bought from my dealer.

Never use weatherstrip adhesive for trim/badge mounting. When the stuff gets on the paint it is impossible to remove or could ruin that area of finish. That Dealer did not know what in Hell he was talking about.
