Bad News: wrecked my fd...ice storms blow

We had an bad ice storm... On Friday I was on the way to get my door locks and antena fixed.. there was no ice on the roads at the time.. then around this sharp curve I hit the gas a little too much and got sideways.. I couldn't turn it back in time.. before I hit the bank (which is like 5 foot tall) my friend behind me said at least 2 maybe 3 tires came off the ground ..I got spun around and kept sliding.. almost got it completed stopped on the other side of the road.. but it kept going.. there's about a 15 foot drop.. and a old run down building over eye level to the road (which is about 3-4 foot away form the road) ..my front right end caught the brick wall.. tearing most of the wall down.. my car luckily got stuck with my right front end on the wall and my back left tire still on the road. I wanted to cry.. The main damage I can see on the car is my front end needs replacing.. left pop-up light.. a peice of my side skirt is messed up and my rear end may be scratched, since the wrecker dude had to pull me out.. and other scratches.. the hoods a little messed up.. I don't believe there is any engine damage.. Since I've gotta get a new front end now.. I might as well get one that I want. I'm still planning on getting a fmic and bigger radiator.. so I guess I should get a front end with a bigger mouth (so it will help cool **** off better) does anyone have any suggestions?? I like the 99 spec front end.. but don't know if that would be much better than the 93 stock one. The only thing I dislike about the 99 fornt end is the license plate thing.. I like the Pettit 99 front replica too. Hopefully the insurance company will be nice to me.. thanks alot for the input.

I've only owned my car 2 weeks today..

I suggest that people drive their cars like a bunch of old ladies when the weather is very cold or wet. How many stories have we heard about cars being wrecked because of stupid driving on slick roads.

These are nice cars!!

Stop wrecking them!!

For 90% of the cases the following statement holds true.

You hit something with the front end of the car, insurance claim = totaled. Front end parts are outrageously expensive, damage much stuff up there at all and it is totalled. Sounds like yours.

Sorry to hear about your car. You guys should really auto-x your cars, maybe after a few times of hanging the tail out (and losing it) you could learn where the limit is and also how to recover from the tail coming out on you.

auto-xing and driving in a combination of snow, sleet and freezing rain are two different things.

sorry to hear of your car.

Not really two different things. It is called car control.

Oh, but I see you live in NC, you must know all about snow. Never get any here in the NW.

sorry to hear the bad news, but I kinda agree with the other guys: you shoulda known about the slick roads. You had to have been going pretty fast to do all that

Yep, very sorry to hear about your crash but it sounds like you were going way too fast, especially since you've only had the car 2 weeks. Hope the insurance company treats you right....

and yeah, like i dont hear every year that people in the south can't drive in the snow, blah blah ....

Sorry to hear about your car....that sucks......

But I am sort of confused about your post.....you imply that there was NO ice at all at the time of your wreck, or that there wasn't when you started and then there was by the time your repair issues were done? Because it is just.....strange..... to me that you would lose control of the car on dry pavement, unless you were ******* around.....er, I mean "doing some spirited driving" or whatever.
What are you saying, that you goosed the gas on a SHARP curve and were surprised the back end came around? PLEASE don't tell us that you are one of those 16-21 year old drivers that keep killing FDs simply because they don't yet fully understand the dynamics of the car and/or driving.....PLEASE?

The FD is such a forgiving chassis....you REALLY have to do something crazy to get it sideways on dry pavement on normal streets....believe me, I have tried!

I am not harping you ya man, just glad you are okay, but everyone should learn a little from incidences like this, whatever the circumstances were.

The number of wrecks per model is a factor in the calculations insurance companies use to figure rates, thus every wreck involving a FD costs the rest of us owners MORE MONEY!

lesson #1

do not drive an FD in bad weather, especially when you know there is an ice storm approaching!!!!

get a beater to drive every day, this is a MUST for any FD owner, an FD has to be the worst daily driver ever made

and btw, ice storms DO suck

I had a hard time in a snow storm we had last week with my Prelude. I cant even imagine how bad it would of been if I was in the FD. I would probably end up in a ditch or just stuck somewhere. Sorry to hear about this and just remember to be careful and not to drive the car if there is any chance of crap weather coming.

I've been looking for an fd for a while now. The road wasn't dry. I had just turned onto the road so I wasn't speeding. And I am not an fd killer. I wanted to die when I looked at the front end.
