bad idle reason found !

I believe i found the reason why my idle is acting funny. By accident i hit the negative off my battery and the car still ran like nothing happened. How is this possible , for a car to run without the negative attached ?? makes no sense !

you should never "by accident" be able to knock the terminals off the battery

How to fix running off the alternator:

Reattach negative battery terminal.

I think everyone is trying to tell you that it is running as it should and that there is no problem - other than you disconnected the battery cable and should reattach it.

The idle should not change because the car is running on or off the alternator.

ummm, because the car is running off of the alternator after it is running. you use the battery to start the car. Now if you could START the car with the negative off, then you would really have a mystery...

Man.

You appear to have a hard time connecting the dots, np94.

So let me spell it out for you: Your battery and terminals are not the problem.

Running the car with the battery disconnected WILL damage the alternator , if you are (or were) using the stock ECU it would immediately shut down the motor . I know first hand ,I spent a night in mine after the battery separated internally. You should swap out the alternator and try it again.
