Backfiring like crazy - SOLVED, kinda
Ok guys, when the car was cold it would backfire atleast twice everytime I revved to anything under 2k rpms and I had lost alot of power.
I had a thought and unplugged the smog pump, NO more backfires and the check engine light never came on from unplugging it.
The car still doesn't run good but I don't understand why it would backfire with the smog pump connected??
I'm gonna swap out the ecu and see if it will run better.

The smog pump provides cooling air to the cat converter, which when mixed with unburnt fuel can cause backfiring inside it. You will destroy the cat converter if you do not hook up the air pump. At worst case a fire if you park over brush. That's why there is the floorboard temp sensor on the console.

I was gonna start a new thread about backfiring.
But since this is here I'll ask here..
If i don't get a response or so. I'll start a new
thread = )
IN between shifts i get some mild backfiring..
when i am in partial throttle...
Car also back fires a little when I turn the car off..
What does all that signify?? That I am running RICH?
Something WRONG??
ONly exhaust mod I have is DP and Catback.
With Intake and Intercooler...
IS little backfireing OK?? bad for turbos?
Apex seals?? or what?? SHould I worry?
because I am..
thanks..

So the only reason would be because it's lean? It is lean at idle but I thought something else would be causing it.
I can make my car backfire everytime if I shift at 2900rpm from 2nd-3rd and 3rd-4th, even when it was running strong so I assume that is normal.

it is normal, but it is normal to run rich as well. especiallly withthos remapped ECUs. don;t worry about it, better to run rich than lean, when your car stops backfiring then be concerned.
