AWS and new engine - pros/cons?

As 'zero hour' approaches I was wondering if it is cool to let a new engine rev to 3K or if I should bump the throttle to kill it back to normal idle, when I first start it?

Opinions and experiences would be appreciated.

Start your cold car with cold oil in the pan at 3000 rpm . Sounds stupid does it not .Does to me ,Ari at RP in Texas states that 5o % of engine wear comes from that Mazda feature .They did it to quickly heat up the pre cat .Most of my customers do not have a pre cat .I always remove the AWS , Good skill to you with your new engine .

Garco Motorworks, I've noticed that you say "good skill" where others would say "good luck." I've got my theories as to why you say this, but I've always wanted to hear your explanation.

Thanks,

Yup, no real need for the 3000rpm startup. Start in 1st gear to eliminate it.

*edit*
Just remember you have an auto, so a blip of the throttle should do.

definately no need for it! its only going to cause wear in the first minute... new engine or not it should be removed in my opinion.

Non-seq on an automatic, that would be smart.

Baja, it would be fine to remove it. If you don't want to remove it, blip the throttle on the first start up. Make sure you prime the oil system before trying to fire it up the first time. Good luck.

As far as running this on an existing engine, i say no, remove it.

ON a brand new engine startup, I recommend manually holding the throttle open to about 3 grand for a minute or 2, then drop it down to 2 grand for another minute or 2, then have your throttle stop/idle set around 1500 and leave it be while you check for leaks and such. You need to rev a freshly started rebuild up a bit to blow out the assembly lube, and to seat the seals a bit...compression is usually weak to begin with, and you cannot always expect it to settle in and idle smoothly the first startup as an existing engine normally would.
