AutoWeek's original first-drive FD Story
AutoWeek's original first-drive FD Story
Hey guys,
I posted this in the lounge, too, but I should have posted it here instead in the first place. AutoWeek posted the original first drive story of the FD from 1992 along with a short write-up about my car. It's a pretty neat read to see what AutoWeek said about the car when it first came out.

I bought the last years production RX7 with the crazy Bose sound tubes option in the rear. The RX7 was THE MOST DANGEROUS unstable car in any kind of wet or damp road conditions. The car was especially 'spooky unstable' if the 2nd turbo came in (around 3200 rpm) causing the rear to break loose if you were in any highway curve or wet condition. The rear end would come around and cause the car to do donuts at speed. How I was never killed in that terrible designed car is a miracle. I changed to different 'rain' tires three times with no improvement. Mazda acknowledged a 'frame design' problem but would never do anything to help. I found Mazda to be totally irresponsible if not criminal. I finally had to sell the car after a major incident with a spin out at about 25mph narrowly missing two cars. I will NEVER buy or recommend a Mazda product ever!!! They build death traps

Your engine bay looks a lot like mine used to... M2 medium IC and airbox, etc. Do you have a copy of the original article from Autoweek? The one page posted in the link is impossible to read
^^ I can't believe this guy... what a phaggot
A guy like that should stick to driving Camrys and minivans. Has no business with a sports car. Wow. Just wow.

@prew: Haven't talked to Shawn for a long time. And yes, I do work for AutoWeek.
@mdpalmer: The original story's text by Kevin A. Wilson is at the bottom of that link above. I will see if we can get a better scan of the original article, though.
@j9fd3s: That white one he had was really clean, too. I think he had it on eBay way back when, but not sure if it sold that way. Wondering if anyone on this board has his red one? At least, I think it his other one was red.

No, he never did have a CYM. I believe that CYM pictured belonged to Ivan of Sunnyvale, who did do all the work on Shawn's cars. However, I think Ivan did sell the CYM and replaced it with a mint 1995 brilliant black R2 or something with like 800 miles on the ticker. At least that's the last I heard.
