Automatic Hold Light

I know in the user manual it says some things about the hold light coming on when lost traction, etc. I'm not beating on my car, just acceleration a little faster than normal, but the hold light will start blinking until i put my car in park then back into drive. I just finished doing a rebuild and everything else is perfect.

Is this normal for automatics?

Thanks for your time.

not normal... you probably have a bad connection somewhere. what happens when the hold light is on? does the car actually downshift or lock into 3rd gear when you are over 45mph?

Try pushing the hold button a few times while driving when it comes on, might help you decide if it is an electrical short, bad button or ecu problem.

before freaking out, check your transmission fluid level.

Check Fluid level also check the trans cooler (pass side) for air flow obstructions (paper, leaves) and or lots of bent fins. The Hold light will flash for low fluid pressure caused buy low or Overheated fluid, will also flash for a bad Trans ECU.
Have the fluid changed (along with the TWO filters) and clean & straighten the fins on the cooler.

if the hold light is flashing then it means an error code has been stored by the trans ecu, just like the check engine light means that a trouble code has been generated. There is a way to jump the diagnostic terminals under the hood, just like jumping TEN and GND for the check engine light. Please consult your service manual. I am at work and don't have mine. Also, try www.iluvmyrx7.com I think a manual is available online there.

I'll check my FSM tonight when I get home, BUT I don't think the Trans ecu stores any codes, the Main ECU does store codes related to the trans though (iird)

yup. pg K-214 94 service manual. jump TAT and GND. ignition on, then count # of times hold flashes. then see pg K-218 to see what the code means. Many thanks to www.iluvmyrx7.com.

Well I just read all these posts for the first time. Haven't checked fluids for tranny, but that'll be the first thing I do. The hold light is a blinking light, and like I said earlier it will go off as soon as I put the car back in park and drive again. Now that I think about it, might actually be the tranny fluid. Because it seems to only come on when I take a corner a little fast or when I accelerate a little harder than normal (lifting up the front end a bit).

If you will read the manual, as you should, and follow the procedure, your tranny ecu will tell you exactly why it's blinking. But, it couldn't hurt to check the fluids. BTW, theres no easy way to drain, flush and refill the autos tranny fluid.

Ok I did the Diag check. The Errors it gave me were the Speed Sensor 1, and throttle sensor. Could anyone give me approx locations for both of these, so I could check them. I'll continue to look throught the manual. Thanks for all your help.

Ok I know where the Speed Sensor 1 is, just need to find out where the Throttle Sensor is. Anyone ever have either of these errors before? And could you tell me what your problem and solutions for them were?

Thanks again for you time. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
