Automatic FD's and radiator upgrades
Myu friend has a 94 PEP Auto FD, and is looking at doing a coolant system upgrade. He just noticed a smalll coolant leak, and with a Texas Summer just around the corner, I suggested a complete upgrade. I looked at Rotary Performance's web site, and they list the all aluminum Koyo and Fluidyne radiators, but for 5 speed only. I am assuming that since he has an auto, the radiator has an outlet to the tranny cooler? My question is, can he get an upgraded aluminum radiator, or is he stuck buying the stock Mazda replacement? He is also planning on upgrading the AST, and replacing all 4 coolant hoses. Anything else he should think about? Thanks

i believe that the stock radiator is your best bet on this. as you have noted, the tranny cooler is the reason. i have heard that you can get a tranny cooler welded onto an aftermarket type radiator............but i haven't had any experience with that.
you can refer your question to ATFD@yahoogroups.com, which is a group of auto trans fd owners. i think they had a thread once that was related to this question.
good luck,

So you dont have to join the group, create a Yahoo login etc.. if you dont want to...
Here is a post that should help you out.
Your choice is this one, or use a 5spd upgraded radiator and add another seperate tranny cooler.

Hi all, not sure if this has been brought up before, but you can get a beefy
aluminum radiator from Anthony Woodford Racing, the same folks who make the
Mazdacomp radiators - with the tranny cooler intergrated like stock. Got mine a
year and a half ago (the first that Tony had made) for $600 (I know, ouch) with
a 2 month wait. Might take less time now, as that he does not have to research
the design again.
Didn't have the foresight to take pics, though its a nice unit. It's the exact
same as the Mazdacomp radiator, save for the oil cooler. Not as spit and polish
nice as the Koyo I got a glimpse of though.
