auto or stick
which would be cheaper, buying an auto for 7000 or a stick with a bad motor? and i would put a 5-speed tranny in the auto. so would t be cheaper to rebuild the stick motor or switch to a stick in the auto?

i was wondering which would be cheaper not whether i should bother getting one if i cant afford the best.
the cheapest running 5 speed is 15000 versus 7000-8000 for an auto, now a broken 5 speed is usually the same as an auto, so i could rebuild that or convert the auot to stick. are there any actual engine differences between the auto and 5 speed? the auto is 7000rpm redline is that only due to the tranny or what?

Search for how much an auto to manual conversion costs and the perils of doing it. From what I hear it is not worth the hassle and do some more research on this car in general. That question raises issues of a whether you will be able to afford the new engine as a result of the premature strain an automatic puts on the engine. (from what I hear)

It cost me alittle over 2,000 in parts and 1000 in labor to convert my auto to manual. I used all used parts except clutch, flywheel, and shifter. there's alot of info on what you need to do it,but that's what it cost me.

cheapest running stick should be more like $11000-12000, $15k is pretty high for a 93 unless it's in prestine condition or has a lot of modified stuff.
You're better off buying a stick in running condition or gettting one that needs a new engine.
Unless you know how to do all the work yourself, you should always buy something that runs. Having a new engine, turbo installed can cost over $7k!

what happens when you do the swap and a month later you blow the engine??? $7000 is good for a REAL clean auto...what type of reliabilty mods have been done to either, if any??? i'd say if you find an auto with a real strong engine and all the reliability mods done for 7k buy it, drop a turbo 350 trans. with a shift kit and laugh at the 5-speed guys as your passing them....

Louis m thats what people said about my first gen and i did it. besides if i wanted to i could do it as a class project for myself at my vo-tech, meaning i have a year and all resources needed to rebuild a motor.
for the most part they are stock
give me they extra few grand and i will gladly buy a running five speed
ehh anyways ive pretty much decided to get a 5 speed w/ a bad motor.
thx for the help in swaying my decision

I've never seen anyone that has been able to mate a 13brew to a domestic auto tranny (other than an all out drag machine costing $$$)
