Audible Boost Loss (or Wastegate?)
Audible Boost Loss (or Wastegate?)
Alright I have checked many many postings and here are my thoughts. First off i did a boost test and got:
10 Psi
8 Psi
8 Psi
Yesterday I took apart all tubing and found no damage. I also tightened all fasteners when I put them back on. The car had been off for over 24 hours and when I removed the vaccum tube from the CRV I could hear air being sucked it which leads me to believe the vaccum system has no leaks......However I dont know if it is not connected. I want to get a vaccum gauge but I am in Italy and dont even know where to look yet.
Anyway, when I accelerate I can here what sounds like air escaping. I can hear a bit during first turbo but second turbo gets a lot louder. I always figured that was the factory wastegate but I dont know if that is supposed to be audible. The air sound is pretty loud and steady during hard acceleration over 4500 rpm. The only suspect I have so far is the o ring between secondary turbo outlet and y-pipe..buuuuut...this junction (I think) is after the charge control valve therefore I would also loose boost from the first turbo. The reason I suspected this was because oil I found around there. Yesterday I cleaned it and ran hard but found no oil leak.
Where could this damn air be escaping from if it is only from the second turbo and tubing is fine??? The dealership here won't even touch the car and the other mazda dealership in Milan told me they had done a boost test and the turbos were fine (this was before I bought it)....Any help???
