AST Install (currently no AST)

Sorry to make a new thread regarding an already overly-discussed topic!!!

My car currently has no AST. It came that way, I didn't do it. I want to put one back in, probably the ASI.

Question 1) anyone got a picture of how the thermostat housing is supposed to look when you have an AST?
Obviously I have the connection to the overflow bottle going to the thermostat housing, and it will be put back to the AST. So I need to cap the thermostat housing, but I don't think I have the parts (got p/n???)

Question 2) does the ASI come with brackets for mounting in the stock location, if any brackets at all.
I have a koyo and will probably have to mount it elsewhere. Does everyone just make their own brackets (no big deal).

In advance, thanks for the help.
Bryon

the ast is mounted on the intercooler. is yours stock? All you need is a nut and oolt for the top, and a mounting bracket for the subframe. The rad should be of no concern.

Since you have an FMIC, mounting the AST is going to be a trick. You are going to have to find some way to mount it as the stock location is on the stock SMIC (which you no longer have).

Above is the picture of a car (it's not my car) which has the AST mounted and is using a FMIC.

Now I'm gettin' it

ok ok ok.
http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/c...imination.html
Re-reviewing the scudscuderia write-up on elimination, I think I got it. Let me know if this is right:
1) Remove neck (with nipple and coolant line going to overflow tank) from Thermostat housing and put on AST
2) Get hose to join AST to Thermostat housing (at aluminum nipple) (so glad I didn't do this:https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...&highlight=ast ) Anyone know the hose diameter?
3) Get hose to join radiator to AST bottom. Anyone know the hose diameter?
4) Cap on AST should be a stock 16psi radiator cap.
5) Cap on Thermostat housing should have no spring (probably doesn't matter if there's a spring, since there is no nipple on the neck anymore)

I noticed in pic's of the stock ast there looks like 2 nipples on the bottom, but only 1 is mentioned. I assume that one of these is not a nipple, but actually a mounting piece?

Preeeze let me know if this is all correct!!!

That's correct. One is just a mount.

Unhappy HELP HELP HELP!!!

ok, the reason I was looking to go back to AST is my temps have been higher than I'd like.
Here's some background.

Just got my car back from RX-7 Store for rebuilt turbo's install, tuning, and Greddy pulleys. They said that while tuning my temp got up to 100C (or maybe 110C, I don't remember now). They then "re-burped the system and had no other problems".

Before this I already had a FMIC, Koyo Rad, and no AST. I was getting 83C-85C on PFC during 80mph and 30F outside (February)

After getting the car back, for the last 2 weeks my temps were around 90C on PFC, while 80mph cruising and 40F outside temp. Instead of a radiator cap on the thermostat housing I've always had the no-spring cap. (For last 2 weeks, every day I would check the coolant level in the thermostat housing, and it would be at the top.)

So I bought a "stock radiator cap for '93 RX-7". It's got a spring and is rated at 16psi. I put it on, and for the last couple days I've been getting 95-100C on the PFC, under same driving conditions. (This time coolant levl is down to the bottom of the T-stat housing, or even lower)

So this morning I put the no-spring cap back on hoping my temps will go back to 90C. Same driving conditions and this morning I get up to 110C on PFC before I can pull off the highway!!! As soon as I pull off I pop the hood and immediatly notice 2 things:
1) only driver-side fan is on
- so I'm gonna check my relays and fan motors for functionality per the workshop manual. And I need to find out what set-points they are supposed to turn on (not specified in the workshop manual)
2) I got coolant all over the engine bay near the overflow bottle
- My first thought was "blown o-ring letting engine compression push coolant out"

ADVISE PLEASE!!!

edit

EDIT - MORE INFO -
My Engine has cooled down, and the t-stat is closed.

I took off the cap (no spring) and the coolant level was out-of-sight (in the bad way) and my overflow bottle was 99.9% empty.

Possibly pressure cap was bad (either I got the wrong one)? But then why did I never have these problems with to pressure cap?

I've been searching and can't find the temp settings for the fans. I haven't checked their functionality yet, though.

Help please, I'm cereal!
