Anyone try ebay vmount IC ?

Looking at my options for a stock replacement intercooler.

I was looking at this one on ebay

93-95 RX7 Turbo FMIC Bolt-On V-Mount Intercooler FD3S
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/93-95....c0.m245.l1318

Wast just curious to know if anyone has used this core before, and how does it stand up to the heat of a rotary?

I will be buying seperate pipes and making a duct also for it.

Just need to know if anyone has had success with this intercooler

first off, the title calls it a v-mount fmic... so its a vmount front mount?

then its description calls it an smic.

i doubt any company that knows nothing about the differences is very trustworthy to be of high quality.

Do a search on Ebay intercoolers and you will find some more info. Some people use them with no issue others say that they are complete crap. You will have to make a decision on who you want to believe.

as stated, it works well with ducting. We are talking bars and plates here people... not rocket science. It's a good upgrade over stock(once again, with a duct) that won't break your wallet.

I bought the CX racing 24"x12"x3.5" intercooler.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CXRac....c0.m245.l1318

First impressions: Heavy! Obviously not 100% high quality aluminum, although my welder said he had no problem welding mounting brackets on it.

Impressions now: Running sequential @ 7psi and 3" piping, car is friggen quick! AIT on my PFC is around 30 celcius on a hot day and 23 celcius on a cold day. Mind you i have some really good ducting that i made up.

Its not as bad as the haters make it out to be, sure it doesnt work AS good as the 1500+$ intercoolers but it still works fairly well for the price. Anything is better than the stock IC anyways. Doesnt look bad in the engine bay either.

I also got the 3" piping kit from CX, it is a pretty good kit with good t bolt clamps.

Regards,

=Ben

Its a core with end tanks on it, you can mount it wherever it fits. So if you really want to put it in as an FMIC you can, or a v-mount, or a stock mount, or whatever you want to do. The title is just tagging key words so you find it in a search, apparently it worked as the OP found it.

i just ordered a similar intercooler from CX for $136 shipped. also ordered piping and couplers...going to make my own stock mount with ducting.
total cost:

intercooler (15" core, dimensions 21.5" x 10" x 3.5"): $136 shipped

piping: $49 shipped
couplers: $30 shipped
ducting: $50-100 (estimated...haven't built it yet)

total cost: about $300

compare that to pettit's cool charge III @ $1500 + tax (in FL) + shipping.

i figure, an intercooler for $136 shipped? at that price it's worth trying, even if you decided to go with a name-brand setup in the end.

Been using that XS Poo SMIC for about 2 years on stock sequentials at stock boost. You'll want to duct this thing for best results but it works great for my application.

That goes both ways. A lot of times it's possible to over pay for nothing!

I installed a large stock mount godspeed from ebay, temps are just below 40(93 degree day/30 mph). So they do work, just need to make sure to get the proper duct work to get air flow in there. I wonder what temps a stock intercooler gets in that situation?

The key is anything is better than stock. Just make sure to have any intercooler cleaned thoroughly before install.

Need a Duct

WB123 i have the same IC you a planning on ordering. Its needs a duct!! Im having a hard time making one if anyone can help please do...is there anyone who is selling one? Or can make one and sell it? My air temps are getting into the 50's and 60's. The prob is the rad blow hot hot air right into the IC causing your intake temps to skyrocket and stay up even after your engine cools down a big..heat soak. This is my set up..if anyone can help id appreciate it.
