Question Anyone tried an OBX oil cooler yet?

I am almost afraid to ask since OBX is not known for their quality. Has anyone tried one out yet to see if they work well enough? I am in the market. Any input is appreciated.

It doesn't look bad... I mean people use their Intercoolers and are happy with them. I don't see why this should be a problem... The only problem i see is fabricating brackets and a duct... and oil lines.....

I've used the standard B&M Oil Cooler and it has worked fine for a couple years now. Its the one for the V8 remote oil cooler. I use the same backets that the stock one used but just flipped things around a bit and added a few little things such as washers. I got the unit for around 100 at a local performace shop. I had to also spend extra for adapters for aftermarket SS lines. Beyond not have ducts they are great.

Why take the risk when you can get a state-of-the art Earl's 19-row cooler for only $140?

An oil cooler is an oil cooler, it's not rocket science. It should work fine and it's a great price. If they made 25 or 34 rows, that's what I would have used instead of my overpriced Mocal coolers.

Rynberg, thanks for the link. I do believe I will go with that Earls instead. I didn't think to check summit or jegs. Dohh...

Glassman, I agree it should be very simple to make an oil cooler but with all the cracked manifolds that company made I had reservations.

Yea I seen that 25row Mocal on Ebay last night but the guy does not have much sellers feedback so I kind of figured it best to take a pass on that one.

The other thing about that OBX cooler is that it uses SAE fittings instead of AN fittings. Yep, 25-row coolers are about $170...Earl's 25-row at Summit is $170.

The other thing....I wouldn't go so far as to say an oil cooler is an oil cooler.....the coolers have to be able to withstand 150+ psi of oil pressure...this is not an intercooler or something that doesn't have to withstand high pressures.

Agreed, I bought one of the dual oil cooler kits that are available today. After a few weeks of use, one of the cores began to leak. The fitting on the top didn't leak but the core did, and it may be leaking again. If I find the core is leaking again I'm gonna buy a higher quality cooler.

Good luck getting a 34 row to fit. I had mine done and a portion of the bumper was cut out, and it hangs just slighly below the stock bumper, but not the lip. Its one huge SOB. Works well though =)
