anyone know what size belt to use to eliminate power steering pump? already searched and cant find, need it ASAP if possible. thanks-B
Are you just going to run a direct drive to the AC compressor off of the crank? I don't know how you can pull that off because you won't have any adjustment, unless you route it bass ackwards around the idle pulley. I also don't know the size, but it's easy enough to figure out ... take a piece of string or something and run the route of the belt. I think this measurement tends to run a tiny bit small, just so you know. It might take a trial of a couple of belts. You also might have to settle for a 3 rib belt.
To ditch the power steering, and keep the a/c (I'm in the process now), you need to get an a/c only bracket from an FC. Any 86-91 base model should have this bracket. Then you need to find an appropriate pulley to replace the original v-belt tensioner pulley. After that, just run a string where the belt would go, and measure it out for the correctly sized belt.
I just bought an fd and plan on keeping it basically stock until I get used to the car and learn a little more about modding it right (and save a little $$$). My question to you guys is about removing the power steering. Is there a big difference in handling and power gains by doing this? Isn't it better for response without the powersteering anyway? Lastly, what about an underdrive pulley set along with the removal of the power steering? Any comments and or advice?
Thanks.

ps. What other mods can I do to extract more of the existing power from the fd.

I'm ditching the power steering for easier access to the engine while working on it, and beacuse it just basically pisses me off. You won't feel any great power gains. It will just giving better steering response.
