Anyone had this happen yet?
Driving home from work I dropped off a couple of titles for my dad's
car lot. Pull out of the parking lot little bit of a fish tail nothing unusual
went half a block slowed for the stop light notice whtie smoke coming out of from under the hood look for the entrance for Kmart pulled in and shut the beast off. Had the thing towed home three blocks away.
refilled the astand the goose neck for the water pump had a friend start
it up found the leak. Anyone had the heater hose that runs between the turbo housings and the engine blow on them, just wonder could cuase major damage if going down the highway. Its about 3" length. WEll off to the Mazda dealer in the morning. Later

hey that happened to me...hehe but I drove the 3 blocks to a gas station and I guess that fried my coolent seals. If you shut it off right away there should not be much damage. After you get it fixed look to see if you are loosing coolent and erratic temeprature readings.

When I was changing my turbos out this weekend...I saw what shape mine was in.
It was swelled out sooo bad. I am glad I got to it before it blew out.
I guess it is a pretty common failure point.

Patrick

Happened to me 4 months ago at 40k miles. Very scary and dramatic. That lower turbo coolant hose gets soft real quickly. Noticing steam around the hood seams, I cut across 3 lanes of traffic into a 7-11 as the temp guage shot to 3/4. Opened the hood and had a nice steam mushroom cloud and puking coolant on the shoes.
Have a cooling system pressure test done after you replace the hose, and cross your fingers. The Rotary God smiled upon me that day. These hoses should become one of the reliability maintenance checks like the AST and thermostat. They're just a pain to get to, and another heat reason to upgrade to a downpipe.

*cry* this is a sucky design. We need steel belted hoses and an indicator of cooling system pressure...if you notice your pressure goes down too far, time to pull off and find out what's up.
