i've got two used stock knock sensors here. they both have black goo on them. it's not supposed to have that right? anyone got a pic of what a new one looks like?

 

They do have a soft side, but if they are leaking goo, that usually means its not in good condition.

It looks like a black nut that has geen filled with black goo. The black goo is very smooth and not leaking out. I moght have a pic of it at home when I installed my new engine. Give me a few hours and I'll see if I can find one.

 

speaking of knock sensors, is there anyone other than the dealer that sells them (ie. mazdaformance), how much do they run and how hard is the install?

 

yeah me. i've got two, since i thought the black crap on the back wasn't supposed to be there i bought another one. once i find out if they're ok or not, i'll be selling one.
