Anyone else with this issue? (2nd gear)
Shifting to all gears EXCEPT 2nd gear, is smooth. Its like it has two slots to click into before it gets into the gear. Do I need to re-flush some Redline Tranny fluid or is this something you guys have too?

If I understand what you're describing, yes, mine does it too. 3rd has about the same feel when it's cold, but it's smooth when fully warm. There's never any grinding any any gear, but there are a lot of miles on the trans.
I just put Royal Purple in mine a few weeks ago, and it didn't change a thing. I've got a short shifter, and am waiting for new bushings to install it. That might help, but I'm not holding my breath.
Cheers,

Mine's the same way Series7. I think the synchros are going. But we'll find out after the next few races won't we?? Either way, it will give me an excuse to tear into something else and learn how to fix it. It's all a learning experience for me.

When the transmission is cold the first to second gear on my FD shifts hard. (no grinding) Once the transmission warms up it shifts smooth. It has always been that way.

All of you with these warm-up problems need to use the best fluid for these transmissions BG Products Syncro Shift. I tried some Amsoil crap and the Redline (I think it was the MT-90. I recall they had two choices) and then found out about Syncro Shift and have used it in both cars with great success for the last nine years. Dave at KD Rotary told me a few months ago he has the highest regard for it and all of their products. If your Mazda dealer doesn't carry it try bgprod.com under driveline maintenance. It won't help those that need new syncros, but what usually happens is that they get dirty first (which is the balkiness you feel) which leads to blocker ring wear and syncro failure.

Something similar happens to me...when I am shifting relly fast from 1st to second or 2nd to 3rd I get a grinding noise...if I double clutch which kinda gives it a bit of time to slip in it doesn't do it as much.
