Is anyone afraid of the 7?

not scared like your going to crash it.....but the when you drive it, its going to break. its like every time i do a wot pull. I let the car idle to see that its running right. i know its stupid, but you hear these stories everyday on the forums about our cars breaking. I guess im just being extra worried. i have my car tuned properly and my afr's never go over 11.3 at wot. Im just paranoid.

Sure. I used to worry about that every time I took it to a track. I wondered how I would get home (since I don't trailer the car) if the engine blew. One good thing about a rotary, unless its severely blown, it can still run. Granted not great, but it can run which is why they are good engines for the smaller airplanes.

So, when I did blow the engine at the track; I just loaded up the car and drove it back home.

It comes with the territory of owning an FD and either a.) being on a limited budget and/or b.) having to rely on the car at a minimum as a semi daily driver.

If you want to drive a car and not worry about it breaking, go buy a Civic or Integra....oh wait, then you have to wory about it getting stolen. Nevermind.

Whenever I am on the dyno and going past 23-25psi, I do the same thing. After I make an all out pull in 4th gear, I always give it a little rev on the way down to "check things". This is only on the first few pulls, then you get bolder and just want to keep turning it up!

Life's too short to think about it. Just take care of it like you're supposed to, & leave the rest up to fate.

i believe that everyone's fear is of blowing their motor... if rotarys were as reliable as pistons then the only other concern would be to wreck it or have it stolen...

yeah, im just worried cuz I just got done breaking in the engine, and got it all tuned right, it pulls like hell. Just dont want to blow it. I dont beat on it really. And I do have a daily driver (subaru impreza) but i enjoy driving the fd.

id reather have it stolen than blow a motor. least that way it gets paid for.

I honestly have never worried about it, after owning one for 8 years and racing it for 6 and never having an engine failure (knock on wood) I am more concerned with other drivers than something is going to go wrong with my car.

i only fear getting pulled over for tinted windows and no front plates. if your scared that your car is going to break, then that must mean you

A) do not have enough money to own a fd comfortably
B) do not have enough time to fix problems
C) you do not have access to a second vehicle
D) A and C
E) A and B
F) all of the above.

Actually, if you aren't scared or concerned that your FD is going to break, then you aren't driving it hard enough.

Funny. I think (A) is the real problem and explains the high level of paranoia that some people on this board have. I have often wondered what percentage of FD owners would have to sell if their engine blew. No car is worth owning that much IMHO - there are lots of nice cars out there with a close to zero chance of an engine failing.

^ i agree. i dont have the money to replace the motor over and over. Ive done it once since ive owned it (owning it for only 7 months) if it were to ever go again, either part out and sell or ls1.

I have more than enough money to deal with blowing an engine. The amount of money I pay for my daily driver per year could buy a few members an engine.

However, its quite un-nerving to drive a few hundred miles to a track, and know that you have a better opportunity than most cars out there to have an 'issue' getting back home the way you came.

Just because you can afford to fix the engine if it blew does not mean there aren't better places for your money. I really get tired of hearing about how if it makes a difference, you can't afford the car. I can afford the car...but don't ever want to see the engine blow again. If it does there will be changes. If my engine goes again, I will be going LS1 also....about 90% less chance of that engine letting go when tuned to the 350-400whp level.

Then I can enjoy the car everyday with better mpg and also have piece of mind. I appreciate the rotary only to a certain extent...after that point the businessman in me and common sense take over. Minimize cost and maximize gain...
