It's much better this way

My ignition has been giving me problems. I don't feel like spending a lot for a new ignintion.

Might be an easy way to solve it.

Like what kind of problems? Sometimes I have to turn my key from "On" to "Start" like 6-7 times before the starter will actually kick in. Anyone know if this is starter related or ignition related? My mechanic said that he checked everything involving the starter and found nothing wrong.

Same thing happens to my car too sometimes. I usually turn it off, take my foot off the clutch, mash the clutch, and turn again and it cranks... I think it might have something to do with my clutch switch, but I'm just speculating, I haven't had time to verify this yet.

There are lots of threads on this because it is a common problem. I gave up trying to find a fix and I installed the push button starter and it works great. You should at least try this so you know it is not the starter or solenoid. Put the a fuse in line for the circuit to the starter solenoid and better to put it by the battery.

.....and all you have to do is to modify your starter with a dual spade connector so you keep the original (otherwise you get the ABS fault light). Run a 8 or 10 gauge wire from your battery (fused, of course) to the switch and from the switch to the starter and voila!

I've got an S2000 daily driver and I can tell you that the novelty of the push button start wears off after about two weeks.

Nothing wrong with doing it... I mean it works fine but I'd rather spend my time doing something else to my car.

i would definatly check the solinoid on the starter... i have seen 2 FD's with the same problem in the last 5 months with same ignition prob. and it was the starter. they were automatics, dont know if it matters.

Automatics DO seem to experience this more, but it is NOT the starter that is bad. I found this out after spending $267 for a new starter and having the exact same problems...
It is most often a problem with the ignition switch itself, it breaks down internally and just quits working about half the time. Of course, as luck would have it, a new ignition switch is around $200.

How does the S2000 compare to the FD?

It seems like its one of the few not bloated sports cars on the road today (along with the elise, corvette). Every other sports car is basically over 3300-3400 lbs.

If the problem is the actual connection in the ignition that is broken then a bush button should work great. I would probably rig up something(like above) straight from the battery to the starter to test it though first.

This might be a better idea than a traditional push button if you dont feel like fixing the ignition. This way you wont have to hack any of the wires in the dash.

I recently just sold my FD for an s2k. Read my review in the General Auto Section. It stirred the feathers of some rotards.

The car market is seriously lacking 2-door,2 seat, light sport cars right now. You either have to choose a miata or an s2k. And the miata is really underpowered. You can buy a corvette or an elise but you are looking at twice the amount of money.

*edit* To keep my post on topic.... my s2k has a push-button and the novelty wears off after a little bit but it still is a unique OEM feature.
