Any Risks to Removing Clutch Switch?

Trying to troubleshoot the Cruise Control problem.

If we remove the clutch switch, what impact will it have?

Just thinking that it might not let the starter run or perhaps some other side effect.

Thanks for any help

When you say "removing" the clutch switch, do you mean by passing it so there is a closed circuit with current running through it? It runs on the same circuit as the Cruise Control module.

The clutch switch is to prevent the starter engaging when the car is in gear.

Thanks!
I wasn't going to bypass it, just remove it to take apart and see if I find anything repairable.

So, if I unplug it, remove it --- will the car start? Or is it somehting else that tells the starter it can run? You have to press the clutch to get the car to start so I'm guessing this switch or some other does the job.

Since it does start when the clutch is depressed, does that mean the clutch switch is working properly? If it is, then it won't be the problem with the cruise.

Thanks for the help

Then again, if

I would just unplug it and see what happens.

I believe the car won't start though.

car doesn't idle right. I've taken apart my switch and had to replace the spring about 3-4 times now. The spring breaks, and the car doesn't know if the clutch is in or not. When you press in the clutch, and put it in gear, it idles like crap till you let the clutch out. Fine in neutral, but clutch in, and put in first, idles rough.

I use a spring out of a click style ball-point pin. I guess I could replace the switch for like 20 bucks, but the pin springs work fine for like a year, till it breaks.

What's wrong with your cruise control? When mine wouldn't turn on, I pecked on the cruise actuator unit with a hammer, and it started working, LOL.

im pretty sure there are 2 clutch switches. one for starter and one for idle control. check the wiring above the switch. mine was pretty mangled from the previous owner. i think it was from an aftermarket alarm/remote start. the switch is also pretty cheap from the dealer.

Bypassing the clutch switch to allow the car to start without the clutch depressed has zero effect on idle unless you have some kind of serious wiring issues that you disturbed during the bypassing of the switch.

not having a clutch switch has its benifits, one would be puttng your car onto some ramps by yourself, 10000% easier just using the starter
