Any problem with downpipe only mod?
I'd like to replace the entire exhaust system eventually but the money is only going to allow me to do things one at a time. Right now I am completely stock. Second owner of a 94 auto FD that was most likely babied and probably has significant carbon build up. I had an ATF treatment done, can't tell if its helped or not. I'd like to put a downpipe on next but wonder whether with the stock cat and catback on there I run the risk of clogging them with the increased flow from putting on a downpipe? Would I be better off putting a midpipe on there till I could afford a high flow cat? It won't have to pass a state inspection for another 10 months and I could keep the stock cat on hand for that purpose

It is very important to remember that after 2 mods you should look to get a aftermarke ECU, with only a downpipe and a intake you are OK but, midpipe and catback should be installed after the ECU is changed/remaped..., another good thing to do is to get a boost controler to keep the boost @ 10psi.
Better be safe than sorry.

CJ, any particular boost gauge you would recommend?
I know that Autometer is supposed to be good, but there are so many different models I'm not sure which one to get.

just get the autometer with the black face with white/yellow letters. it looks like a factory gauge. check it out at rx7store.net. or check out the peter farrel gauge. matches stock realy nice too.

Um....I'd suggest getting GOOD gauges...not gauges that match the interior. The BF series from Defi is great at night...AND they have a record/playback feature as well as a peak feature. Something that the "matching" gauges don't have.

the defi "D" series doesnt have the fancy features like the BF series, but they are very good gauges. defi is a quailty company. ive heard otherwise about places like autometer. but then again thats just what i heard
