Any idea why the ECU wont reset?
Last night in trying to resolve my knock sensor code problem, I ran into a problem trying to clear the ECU codes. I would disconnect the neg on the battery cable for 20 seconds or more, and then press the brake pedal for a while. I tried probably 10 times and evertime I connected the battery back up, the damn code still existed. Any ideas?

The ecu isnt clearing. I checked the codes each time after performing the "clearing" procedure(before starting it up) and it was still blinking 5 times. Thats why I kept repeating the process

Ok so how the hell is this supposed to work? These are the steps I took
1. Put terminal in TEN and GND and read codes
2. Blinker indicated code 5 (knock sensor)
3. Disconnected Neg(-) Battery Terminal
4. Waited 20 seconds+Pressed Brake pedal for extended period of time
5. Reconneted Neg(-) Battery Terminal
6. Put terminal in TEN and GND and re-read codes
7. Blinker STILL indicates code 5
If everthing worked like it should have, Upon my re-checking of the ECU codes, there should have been none. This was not the case

Thats correct ecu checks as soon as the ignition key is turned on,has the wire from the sensor to the ecu been checked for good continuity and not shorting to earth, if it is good have you tried new sensor ,if new sensor fitted and good continuity then faulty ecu. Wire connects to pin 3m at ecu, wire colour w

I pulled back the wiring for the knock sensor the other day and it appears to be wired into something else (near the ecu) I dont know if that wire is grounded also, or how it works. I was reading the schematic and it appears to be grounded

There is a single wire which goes from the sensor to pin 3m of the ecu, this wire also has a shield wire around it to protect from electrical interference which would be grounded. Check that you have good continuity with the sensor wire to the ecu.
