Another one bites the dust.....
havent had my FD a month. was coming back about 30 miles on the highway, i was yawning and let my friend drive. 2 miles from our houses, 6 deer pop out in the road, he swerves to miss, and loses it. he did almost steer out of it, and there was nothing that could've been done. As some of you know, i totaled my fc on july 9th (search). anyhow, nothing stupid was being done, the car was running the speed limit, no alcohol or anything.

As Jeff said it is fixable. I saw the word deer and thought oh boy another wadd!! But actually that isn't that bad. From the pics you posted i don't see much damage to the lower side of the car.( being drive train, suspension etc..) Maybe there is and just not noticable in the pics. But even the a-pillars lookto be OK Hard to tell for sure though.
But if you can i would fix it or sell it to Jeff Sorry Jeff.
Also like he said never swerev to miss the dear. drive at them. like a wreck in a oval race. by the time you get to it it "should" have moved out of the way. But i guess when you throw 6 of those fockers in the mix the odds stack up against you.
Sorry bout the loss but i say rebuild it.

You are correct that you don't swerve for an animal, but you should at least try to slow down somewhat before impact, assuming that they won't get out of the way in time.

you said nothing could have been done.... something could have been done.
i made the mistake once, but didnt make it twice. never swerve to miss a deer. deer give, trees, ditches, poles, etc do not. i recently hit a deer in my friends FD (it's posted, just look through the pages) all the happened was a ripped off headlight, small dent in the bumper and a bend in the hood. all easily fixable.... whereas your car..... lots more money involved.... plus i got a lot of venison out of the deal

yea, walked away from both. ill give credit to "blessed" instead of "lucky".
honestly, nothing could've been done. as fast as this happened, anyone would've swerved due to natural reaction. you could NOT see the deer up the road, the deer all at once hopped over a small bank they were hidden behind right into the road. it wasnt even a second that when they became visible, they were in front of the car. about a 10-12 point buck standing up higher than the car.....thing was huge.

And yeah at least try to slow down before hand. and hopefully the deer will have gotten a clue by then.

I think your example is similar to someone being killed by an airbag or saved by being "thrown clear" of the wreck due to not wearing a seatbelt.
There are cases where it worked out better (no seatbelt, no airbag, etc) but the majority of the cases you should brake hard and keep the car going in the direction it was going.
