Solid advice. Hitting the deer means a comprehensive claim (i.e hail), therefore no rate increase. Swerving and hitting the ditch means a collision claim, and rates go up.

Good to hear you are OK though. I've always feared running into dear in the FD.

Sorry to hear about the accident -glad you guys are ok.

Just a tip for everyone - if you see a deer crossing the road SLOW DOWN.. even if the deer has gone across. Chances are real good that another deer will pop out and follow the first.

Sorry to see that man. I just had a run in with a deer in my commuter (96 Probe Gt). Needless to say my car was totaled. If it would have been my 7 I probably would consider quitting my job and taking up hunting as my full time job.

Years ago I'm in the country side at night (the real country side; no lights, no houses, no nothing) driving down a two lane road through thick woods. Probably doing about 35 maybe 40 and you can't see anything that isn't in your high beams, it's just pitch black. Out the corner of my right eye I see some big thing rushing towards the car at high speed. I instantly am scared shitless and do nothing but brace for impact while trying to suck my entire body down into the seat cushion. I think my heart actually stopped. But then, no impact. Out my left window I then see the white *** and tail of some huge deer landing and vanish into the woods. Fu*kin deer jumped clear over my car without even slowing down! The whole thing lasted not more than a couple seconds but I don't think anything has scared me that much before. Even the time lightning struck a lightpole as I was driving past didn't scare me as much and that lightpole exploded as I drove by!

I've never hit a deer but I've always heard of the dangers of them coming through the windsheild of a car as well. All their mass is on top of their legs and so they tend not to impact the front of the car but the windsheild as the bumper just knocks their legs out from under them. I know someone who hit a havelina (wild boar) with his pickup. I couldn't believe the damage, it looked like he hit a building or something. He said the bad part was trying to clean the flesh and hair out of the front end of the truck I can't imagine what something the size of a deer would do.

Glad to hear you're in one piece zerocylinder.

On another point, anyone ever notice just how well the FD and FC seem to protect the driver in a roll over? I've seen a few cars rubber side up and whenever I see a FC or FD, it seems like the A and B (or is it C) pillars hold up very well.

Ive heard a story about an 18 wheeler hitting a cow as the truck came over a hill. Not a pretty picture.

Zerocylinder, I am glad nobody was hurt.

My FD was hit by a deer, but it ran into the drivers side door. Pretty scary when you're going 55-60 and something crashes into the side of you're car without any warning. Glad you're ok though. I know there've been more but thats the first time I've seen an FD thats been upside down.

Not really appropriate for the thread, but since RX7Wishing asked, it might cheer Zero up about his car. Just go hit up a bar like this and you'll forget about your car for a few minutes.

True, but the average deer (at least around here) only weighs about 120-150 lbs. Elk (and Moose) are far more dangerous because they stand even taller, and weigh far more. Deer usually won't penetrate the windshield, but if you've ever seen a car that hit an elk at speed... damn.

There was a couple driving an smaller SUV in the country around orangeburg, south carolina that hit a horse which had wondered out in the middle of the road at night. Horse came right through the windshield, killed them instantly.

Their eyes also don't glint in the head-lights so night-driving is a pain in the ****.

Glad to hear you're okay from the accident. Sorry to see another FD crunched (especially an R package)!

There was recently a lounge post i believe that had a moose impact!! Dare i say the moose won the war. Still died but not as dirty as the car I'll try to find it and post up a pic.

for those interested in buying, the insurance adjusters havent contacted me yet, but the claim has been filed.

the car was worth around 12k-15k in my estimation (18k on motor, both turbos, clutch, exhaust)...all the aftermarket parts, less than 500 miles on the koyo radiator.

it has 178 on chassis, so they'll probably give me half of what my car is worth.......im gonna get screwed probably. but ill keep you guys updated and we'll see where it goes..

i went and looked at the car again today, and covered it up to keep rain out, it does look very fixable.

thank's for everyone's concerns

oh, everything in the engine bay is in PERFECT shape.....looks just as good before wrecked.

i did notice something strange though....

on the passenger side strut tower, i saw a liquid.....it's gas

the cloth or whatever material on the underside of the hood also has gas on it.

looks like a fuel line or something busted.....so i def wont try to start the car until i find that.

like everyone has said, hit the deer. I hit one my senior year in High School with a '92 Ranger, and it caused 2,500 worth of damage. Hit the brakes, and with only rear ABS, the left front locked before the right did, so i got pulled into the opposite lane. anyway, moral of the story: if i had chosen to swerve, i would have hit a tree/ditch and would be alot worse off than i am now (clean driving record, and good health, plus the truck got fixed for $50). Good luck fixing the FD, and please, PLEASE don't make it targa or convertible, if someone wants Targa, tell them to get a Supra, and if they want it convertible, direct them toward a FC.

There's really only two choice...

1. Try to swerve so you wont hit the deer, but "must" take a hit to the trees
or ditch..

2. Hit the deer, but must take the hit and damage... On top of that you get a
free deer as well...

"Hit the Deer" will be my choice...
