Another noob Question about Boost Creep...

I know this question has been asked to death, and I've searched a lot on it but from what I've been reading, the only solid way to fix boost creep is to port the wastegate?

I was curious if there's any other way around it. How would this set up work in defense to boost creep?
3" Downpipe, High Flow Cat, Apexi Cat Back
PowerFC @ stock 10lbs boost
Larger Fuel pump
Or will boost creep still be an issue? Is there anything else I should add in there to help, or is there no way around porting/external wastegates?

Thanks

Typically, any catalytic converter is enough back pressure to avoid boost creep. Boost spikes are something different.

What would you recommend to assess the boost spike problem?

+1. With this set-up creep shall not be an issue.

Spike on the other hand might be.

Solutions:
- restrictor plates in the exhaust
- boost controller

I'm in the same trouble and go for manual boost controller as per Damian set-up: https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-gen-archives-73/my-boost-control-setup-perfect-10-8-10-pattern-178136/

Restrictors can make sense for controlling boost creep, but not really for boost spikes. For boost spikes a proper boost controller is the best answer.

Cool thanks for the help. Looks like the missing ingredient in the set up are the boostcontrollers

I can't decide if I want to do MBC or electronic. I have no idea how I'm going to set a MBC because I don't have a boost gauge

Get a boost gauge first.

You'll have no clue what's going on without one.

I read much about boost creep so i think i know my answer, but i just want to make all clear for me. Im doing a rebuild now and my future plan for the FD is:

- ARC airbox
- large front mount intercooler
- non sequential
- stock ECU ( later, i want to buy an PFC )
- new hoses with pillars in
- 3,5" downpipe ( will be reduced to 3" at the end )
- 3" high flow cat
- n-spec nurburg 3" exhaust ( will buy a silencer )
- wastegateporting
- will buy a boost controller
- RE Amemiya boost gauge

So my setup is a little different as the setup from Farkel. And of course im planning "safety" mods like porting the wastegate and the boost controller. So just the quick question, you guys think im on the "safe" side with this setup ( no boost creep / spikes )???
And raising the horsepower IS NOT the goal for now, i want a safe, steady engine. Of course, there are parts which are good for raising the power, but thats another story ( with new injectors, fuel pump... )

Thank you very much!

Keep it stock with just a downpipe if raising the power is not your goal...

With your hi-flow cat, porting the wastegate should not be necessary to avoid creep, even with the cat-back. But it won't hurt either.
Any decent boost controller should control Spike.
Cooling might be an issue with the FMIC, but not spike or creep.

If you're rebuilding and you have the turbo's out of the car you might as well port it then since once they are in the car it's a PITA.

The parts are still at my garage AND i want more horsepower, but later.

Thx for your answers, of course, i will port the wastegate now because its outside the car.

Thx again

I bought an HKS EVC 5 - Solved all my spike issues. That's with a full exhaust, intakes, PFC, IC etc - Holds 12PSI rock solid.
