Another KAAZ thread...sorry

Its funny all these KAAZ threads comin up lately, mostly people complaining about the noise. My stock torsen has been toast for some time and I thought the KAAZ was the goto aftermarket lsd for the FD.

So, all noise aside, how is the operation? Does it work as advertised? Oh, and how many plates-per-side do they use for the FD?

Recommened setting? KD said they set theirs up at 60% locking.thanks

the new kaaz unit for 3rd gens have 12 pucks instead of the old 8. It is really noisy when under load going around corners, but that is it. Once you break it in, the noise is soo much more bareable. The difference i felt when i installed the kaaz in acceleration was amazing. The car pulled sooo much harder. Its felt like the stock torsen was just sucking up a good amount of hp. I dont have any dyno sheets but, it feels like the car is putting another 10 - 20 rwhp to the wheels. Its that much of a difference. Of course this is on a T78 turbo, so stock twins will probably not result in as much gain in power. Personally, i am happy with it. KDR did the install and i let them set it to what they suggested. If you dont want all the noise, you can go with the LSD from the S4 T2 rx7. I hear it doesnt clunk like the kaaz unit and is just as strong and cheaper. But im sure its not as functional as the kaaz, and probably wont free up much if any extra hp.

so the t2 diff doesn't clunck? I am trying to decide between the kaaz and the t2. I have driven a fd with the kaaz before and i hate the noise.

Thanks for the info fastcarfreak. Did you upgrade the diff bushings when you switched? All I can find out there is the pettit at the moment.

I know the KAAZ popped up in the "mod you regret most" thread so I was wondering. Dave guessed I could knock 2 to 3 tenths off my quarter going from a busted stock diff to a KAAZ.

I've heard nothing but good about the T2 diff, nothing real specific but no complaints.

That is really hard to answer, because everyone has a different tolerance. I had Dave from KD install my Kaaz and it was definitely not bearable to drive for a few thousand miles. The noise and clunking reduced after driving the car a lot, however, it's still there. I only use Kaaz LSD oil, which some people said they don't have any noise compared to the other products.

- Can people standing outside hear the Kaaz making noises while turning? Yes.
- Is the noise level loud? Yes.
- Does it feel uncomfortable taking sharp turns? Yes.
- Is it embarrassing taking turns? Yes.
- Will it ever break and leave you stranded at the track? Nope. However, it's possible.
- Do I regret this mod? Yes and no.

Question

Does Royal Purple make an LSD oil?

I'm using their engine oil and love it, maybe using an LSD oil by Royal Purple will reduce the noise

just talked to skip and i'm heading in on may 28 to get this done, assuming the move goes ok for them.

they didn't really have a preference on bushings so i'll probably go with the pettit streets for $159.

Right now my diff is so loud (whirring, grinding, absolute HOWLING over 65) anything would be better. I'll probably take a shot with the KAAZ. I like when the car makes f'd up noises, as long as everything is working

No the T2 doesn't clunk , its completely silent and can handle the power without problems. The experienced racers say that it very capable of taking you into the 8's, plus it costs less and bolts right in.

I haven't been there for about a year and had no idea they were moving.

The good thing about the Kaaz is that it will not make any noises if you are going straight or taking wide turns. If you are going to upgrade the Kaaz you should take advantage of the situation and upgrade your ring & pinion.

DO NOT get the pettit diff mounts. i ordered them and when i went to install them, they were loose. i double checked them. turns out they were two different sizes and nowhere close to the diameter of the stock bushings. absolute junk and a waste of money. if i were you, i'd find some of jimlab's diff bushings. i tried contacting pettit a couple times to see if they'd send me replacements and i never got a single response back out of them. pretty shady if ya ask me
