Another BOV Question

Ok, basically I was looking into getting an aftermarket BOV probably from APEX. ( the red matches my car. )

Anyway, I checked all throughout the service manual ( which is all I got from the car ) but I cannot seem to locate where the BOV is. I am thinking its under the black box where the intake is?

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Also, I read up somewhere the stock BOV is actually better? How would I actually make it so the pressure buildup goes out instead of back into the system?

NorthwindHost,

the BOV is the little black valve looking thing attached to the black air box. It should be attached to the intake by a small 1" hose.

I have 2 videos there of my own. You can hear the stock bov and that's at 10psi if I remember right.

It should say "ABV" on it (or something like that). It's the one below the one that says "CRV". To cap off the 1/2" ID tube that goes into the airbox, goto home depot to buy a plastic plug, and use the stock clamps. The whole project should cost you $.59, not including gas. Have fun!

Changing the BOV on a stock to mildly modded car is the same as changing the shift ****: It's not going to change performance in anyway but that doesn't mean you won't like the difference. I have no idea why people freak out when you want to change, however they'll change out their shift **** or other non-performance parts in a heartbeat.

The main difference is the sound. The Apexi sound is different from the stock vented without a doubt. That is the Apexi BOV mounted in the stock location above. It is possible to install an aftermarket BOV and hurt performance (i.e. the BOV starts leaking or something). However, that rarely happens but is a possibility.

apexi sounds like crap, i mean, you can't hear it...

it seems to me that most people buy a BOV to hear it...

Apex in my opinion looks the best as well.

Well, to save money for now, ( side projects going on like getting my stupid speaker mount ), I would want to look into venting the current BOV.

Does anyone have a step by step on how to do this?

Also there is a black box coving the air filter at this point which I believe is stock?

This is a stupid question, but I just want to make sure. Walien The plug will be to plug the tube that goes to the airbox. right.

Yes -- make sure you don't lose the two stock hose clamps, as you will use it to clamp the plug to the tube and the tube to the airbox.

Oh boy I love BOV questions........

The stock BOV is located right behind/near the stock air intake box. As for performance, I keep reading that boosting near stock, the stock BOVs will work just fine. Sounds great and looks funny......

HKS = king of blow off valves. valve type instead of piston type so they cannot leak. can change inserts to change the sound too

I don't know much about turbo cars especially the rx7. All I know is basic repair and electical wiring.

It doesn't mean I don't want to learn. =)

So anyway, I took of the black box covering everything, now what?

I think I located the BOV but how would i vent it into the atmosphere and not back to the turbo's

Just remove the rubber hose from the BOV, and also from the end closest to your airbox. Cap off the side on the airbox itself where the hose used to meet, and you're done. It should look exactly like the first pic of this thread, and you will hear the difference to confirm it.

Try a 2-liter plastic pop bottle top on the back of the airbox.

You can always take the hose in and size it accordingly for measurements.

Why would it? The airbox isn't under pressure.

It doesn't always need to have pressure to fall off. =P. I am more worried about the sizing and when i hit a bump, ::clunk clunck::
