alternator removal

I got the belt off the alternator, but I cant get it off still, it seems like theres a bolt from the back holding it in from the back left right next to the rats nest... everything else comes out, it just like pivits in this area and wont come out.? how do IGet it out?

There are two bolts ... one is the obvious one to the upper right when you're facing it that is the belt tension adjustment. There's another quite long bolt (depth of the alternator +) that it pivots on to the lower left side of it. Pay attention to the housing, it's impossible not to see. If you took that one out and it still won't come out then you just need to pull harder ... it fits there pretty snugly.

Those were the only two bolts I removed to get it off too...Was pretty easy...I ended up moving the presure chamber to make it a bit easier to work, other than that it just came right out...the toughest part for me was getting the belt off and back on...

Mine was pretty hard to get off after removing those bolts. The first time I had to pry it up with a screwdriver (CAREFULLY!). I also had to take out a vac line that was in the way of the left side of the alternator coming straight up.

It is a pain in the ***. You need to rock it back and fourth while lifting it out.

I usually loosen the black bracket that the tension adjuster is mounted on. It makes it much easier to get on and off. One nut is right by the PS pump and the other is a long bolt that goes through the waterpump.

I've only replaced one alternator in my life and that was on my ultima. It was the biggest PITA ever to get that thing back on. Is it a real pain in the rx7 as well or not that bad? I would only be removing to get polished...it still works fine. Also can I take the outer casing off of it and get it back on?

I must have cranked that thing twenty times with no success on my first try. I shot some PB Blaster on it and that f*cker came of on the second crank.

can I take it apart without too much trouble so I can just send the outer shell to get polished or is that not going to happen? I don't want to even mess with it if I can't take the shell off. Thanks

Sorry to bring back from the dead but I can't even get the damn belt off the car. I tried the tensioner but I still couldn't get it off. I'm going to try again tomorrow. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm by transcontinental and vets. I didn't try loosening the airpump. I'll try this tomorrow and see what happens.

The tension adjustment for the airpump is directly underneath it. Nearly impossible to see if you've got the stock airbox. I think you'll have to remove it to reach the bolt.

Yep, especially if it's your first time attempting it.

I need to loosen the airpump AND drop the alternator adjustment to remove that belt. I remove the airbox too. Quite the PITA.
