Alternator and air pump removal?

I need to get my airpump and alternator off, but there seems to be something holding them onto the points that they hinge at.

What is this holding them and how do i release it?

Cheers

Sine you can not twist or bend aluminum much before it will break, one side of the brackets has a sliding iron pipe inside it that is compressed by the attaching bolt to remove slack. This is what holds it tighter than you think it should.

You just have to twist and pull or pry them off.

These have been in use for a long time by the industry.

If you have all the bolts off that holds them in all you have to do is move it back and forth while pulling it upwards and with a little patience it will come off..

Old thread, I know.

But I had been searching for this answer.

If I remove the air-pump unit itself, what belt do I ask for at Autozone to have the eccentric shaft just going directly to the alternator, without the serpentine-ness of the stock belt?

So just buy the same belt that I use for the ps/ac side? That belt is extra long too, tho.

I'm wanting to eliminate the air-pump and run a shorter belt from the E-shaft straight to alternator.

Your going to have a very small contact area with the stock pullies and no air pump. The AC/pwr. sterering belt is prety small (short) compared to the alt/water pump/air pump belt. Sine your going to have to remove the AC/pwr. steering belt ot get the other one out of there why not try it and see if it's the right size. Jack

After removing the airpump, you'll need a 30" (760mm) belt (well, thats what I use)

There is a bushing that moves inside the bolt hole that makes for the tight fit. Carefully use a prybar and or a rubber mallet to knock the airpump and alternators loose. To ease installation, carefully hammer back that bushing. It will get snug again when you tighten the bolts. If you remove the air pump, make sure you get a pulley set from one of the vendors. You will not have enough belt contact with the stock pullies and the waterpump may slip. It will also come with a belt.
