Almost blind in one eye and a Curb Checked FD =(

Well time to explain this story. Coming home from school from downtown I took my daily route of 281 to 151 etc . But on the way home I needed to stop by wal-mart or I of course hesitated a few times but I decided to go anyways (Mistake 1). Well I go down fm471 and up this hill towards wal mart (Mistake 2) as the hill goes up there is a slight turn on a slick black gravel road (Mistake 3) as I start to get in the turn my tail starts turning loose and I soon start seeing the car coming in the other lane. I try to counter steer to make up for the compensation but end up doing do much (Mistake 4) . And then I suddenly find myself with my hood at the windshield and my car smoking(airbag smoke amazingly the car just shut off and radio was still playing.) I do notice my passenger side air bag go off as I turn I get struck left side of face with the drivers side bag (MISTAKE I WILL NEVER FORGET !!!!!!!!!!!) I later find myself wireth smoke everywhere and tme trying to get out. By the time people were turning around some pulled me out of the car cuz the door wouldnt open. I found quickly that my left eye had become completly not visible out of and I was bleeding from my nose , Lip , And my left arm. As I layed on the pavement for about 10min (EMS BLOWS) I look at my car. Its totaled and with only liability insurance (another mistake) I had lost her forever. I later get transported to ER and took 6 hours of cat scans , eye visits , and a number of physicans asking my social security number. All in all bad day till I find everyone to show up thanks alot guys and gals. I have now been sleeping about 20 hours of the 24 hour day. At worst as my conditions are I might loose my eye but I can also heal it with proper medicine for the next 3-6 months and proper visits. Anyways I honestly can say I wont be driving a sports car for a very long time but soon hopefully I will finish college and mutual funds will get me my supra that I have always wanted. Anyways just thought I would share "My Moment with Death" Please ladies and gentlemen always have your seat belt on (If I didnt I woulda flown out the passenger window and hit a guard rail and always have full coverage (Lost 15k). Lesson learned and moving on. I should mention i was only going maybe 25-35 mph and from what people are telling me is the FMIC hit the airbag sensor and made the airbags go off.

Unhappy

The car is up for sale if anyone is interested just thought I would throw that out there as you can see its all outer dmg the engine bay actually never got harmed and the fenderlining wasnt moved so it was all outside dmg from what people tell me it would cost less then 5k to get it back on the road again. Luckily in the crash I didnt have the Knightsport Carbon Fiber Hood on (also comes with car) so that didnt get dmged. Black interior remained flawless through the whole thing. It didnt deserve it <crys>

Honestly the more interest that is stirred up the better as this was my daily driver for a couple of months. I honestly had NO PROBLEMS (single turbo fd + changing oil every 1k miles along with spark plugs = no problems on my end). I actually need to get moving again and get back to college cuz I cant walk 30 miles everyday lol.

Man sorry to hear that...i hate airbags. They're there when you need them ,but they're also there to hurt you when you don't need them.

Lack of engineering ingenuity. They should have been 2-stage deployment from the beginning...not in 2000+!! Really, they need 3-stage deployment.

I need to get that hub adapter and install my racing wheel. I have done that with every airbag car that i've owned.

I'm sorry that you got injured, and damaged your car.

Sounds like you crashed your car beacasue you were screwing around, and going too fast around the corner. Looks like this can be added to the "already-too-long-list" of 18 year olds who crashed their FD because of poor judgement and bad driving. Too bad, it looked like a nice car

Well the road is covered in dirt and stuff and like I said i was only doing 25-35mph theres alot of construstion + the slick road. I didnt pay attention to the boost gauge but for all I know it coulda boosted in the turn I do have a small turbo that does kick in at 1500rpm

Yes if the airbag didnt go off I would have been fine but it caught me off guard when the passenger went off and then i turned and the airbag struck me in the left side of my face. Please email me and we can talk on price.

Yeah, that's very unfortunate. I made a similar mistake once (although on an open road, at 25mph, and no curbs). My mistake was too much throttle thru a turn, a patch of gravel, and then I countersteered and wasn't ready for the super-fast recovery of the car. Like you, my car then bit hard once it cleared the gravel patch and I shot off the outside of the turn. During the incident I didn't know there was gravel at the apex of the corner. Fortunately for me I had enough time to brake and I just scraped some grass. I blame inexperience in handling the car (my reflexes mimiced recovering a car on snow/ice - entirely different type of traction loss) as well as stupidity. You have no idea how much I hated myself for it.

Good luck with your recovery. I hope you regain your vision. Personally, I rather break an arm or something than an eye injury. Makes me think that wearing glasses to drive may be good for other reasons.

I was wondering when someone would bring that into the equation
