I didn't like the idea of airbags so I disabled mine, got a rollbar, a racing seat and a 5pt harness. I was recently in an accident at about the same speed as you involving me t-boning a honda (his fault) and it totalled the car( $11K worth of damage). Due to the seat and harness I didn't even have whiplash, I barely felt the collision.
Anyway, I feel for you as I am in the same position but the other guys insurance is paying for my car so hopefully they won't rip me off too bad.

Wow sorry to hear about that. What happened to your eye? Are you seeing a retina specialist?

If you want I can take a look at it if you can make the trip to Dallas. However, there are some good docs in SA. Drop me a PM.

We have a shuttle service that can pick you up at the airport.

The air bags are triggered by frontal impacts.

so your injuries were caused by the airbag? did the airbag go after the impact?

good point about the FMIC interfering

sorry to hear

those tools criticizing his driving you weren’t there. he stated the road conditions which could be easily misjudged

Storys like this only make me more motivated to ditch air bags, and invest in a nice steering wheel and a good harness.

Hope things go your way man.

How can the conditions be misjudged when he stated there is lots of construction, and MAY have boosted in the turn. Tools?? I don't think so!!

You didn't have full coverage on the car? Biggest mistake of ALL time. Maybe you should of held off on the 10k worth of mods and put it towards insurance. Doesn't pay to be a cheap ***.

um.. yeh exactly lots of contruction, loose gravel, reaching the crest of a hill sounds as though you could:
Misjudge
Misinterpret
Underestimate
Overestimate
Miscalculate

the conditions.

Bummer...we've all had some bad scares...but that sucks. If that's the most stupid thing you do in life...consider yourself lucky

For all the nuckle heads with to much power under the right foot..try Racelogic traction control may save you from yourself....or in my case push the limits harder:-) Plus its really fun baking people off the line while they are spinning in 1st and 2nd gear...:-) Just as impressive in the rain, now if I could just get that braking thing figured out....

Too bad you didn't bother to read it all. He did this by going too fast around a corner, while accelerating, NOT on a crest of a hill, with construction all over the place. Its nice that you WANT to think that it somehow wasn't completely his fault ........ but it obviously was!!

You can criticize my driving all day if you want to be honest I am the slowest driver on the damn planet ask anyone who has met me at a rx7 meet and they will tell you they passed me in a 86n/a and frankly it doesnt bother me. Yes I will admit its my fault but thats not my point of the thread its to alert people of the air bag incident I did go through. Once again yes my fault and for those defending me thank you cuz honestly I am not a complete jackass I apologized to the fd community about this incident b/c I know at heart I am a huge rx-7 fan and was just as or more broken up over losing my car. BTW car is priced at 8100 and you come and take it I will hand title over and all.

damn that sucks.. IMO the airbag wheels looks horrid.. the jap spec non airbag wheel looks a lot nicer and would solve your airbag problems.

Im a very short person and even then my head is pretty far back from the wheel. how big is the airbag? With a seatbelt on, your head shouldnt even hit the bag given the seating position in the FD correct???

Are you "gansta leaning".

You always have the possibility of the steering column moving back as well. Proper distance, your elbows should be slightly bent (i.e. you stretch your arms out, and your wrists are on the wheel with your hands extending past the wheel). However, the airbag is designed to work with the seat belt and help "slow" the body's forward acceleration in the case of an accident (not necessarily stop it). The airbag or seatbelt themselves won't accomplish the same result as both of them together.

Gibenstein, you may want to take 7racer up on his offer. He is a great doctor from what I hear.

Gib, even though I never got to meet you at an SA meet, I'm sorry to hear about your accident. Hope your eye gets better.

My condolences. Get well soon.

Yes a pain indeed to see an FD like that. I didn't bother to click on the images.
Speaking about 7racer, he's an eye doctor fwiw.

First and foremost the important thing is that you are alive. Hope that your eye can get well soon.

Always sad to here another FD got lost and again another warning to never underestimate any car and especially the RX7 which can give you a great boost in confidence but can take in away in an instant.

(Mistake 2) as the hill goes up there is a slight turn on a slick black gravel road (Mistake 3) as I start to get in the turn my tail starts turning loose and I soon start seeing the car coming in the other lane.

you know i did read the whole thing. i assume by that comment you did, so you fail year 5 comprehension. see the hill part. you fail again as i never said it wasn't his fault, but i can see in this situation that a mistake can easily happen

its nice to know tools like yourself think you're the worlds best driver and feel the need to jump on anyone that is involved in an accident. does this make you feel cool, mature... on the internet? well done
