I have the "real" RE kit. I do not have this problem.. That said, I have installed 3 "fake" RE kits and all have done this. When the surround was installed it took care of 2 of the 3 cars. ( But the surrounds needed a TON of work to even come close to fitting. The hood was not even close. The surrounds stuck under the hood by 1/4- 3/4 of an inch on both sides.Varied depending on what point the hood was at.) The third is still fighting back. It needs a support on the lower side of the bracket. To keep it from Flopping around. Try the surrounds first though. You may get lucky.

Install and fit the suround first. That is what i had to trim and sand like a SOB to get to fit correctly. If you paint them first you will be pissed when you have to cut/hack/and sand them into place.

The lights also hit the surround on the inside front. so it had to be made "deeper" than it is when they come. more cutting Also they hit on the top of the lights So the top mounting tab would not lay flush. I had to hog out the inside of the housing to get that to fit as well. Overall a crappy kit. But it may have been an early run and a bad "batch", it was pretty early on when they first offered them. Cause they were absolute **** to put on. And others have not seemed to have this issue.
