Lemon Laws ONLY apply to Brand New vechicles.
Used cars are sold AS IS.
lemon Laws apply to any new vechicle that has had the same repairs done 3 times in a year and the dealer can't find a solution...

Hope this helps some...

From that right there, looks like you are on your own. You failed at doing your home work before buying a car that is prone for engine failures. Trade you for my FB.

I think if anyone buys a FD not expecting it to break is very mislead.....

Did you get a compression numbers when you looked at the car?

If I sold my FD, which I never will, to a person, and it blow's a month later, and they expect me to pay for it.... I would fight it to the last breath. It's simply absurd.

Was the car overboosted?
Driven hard when cold?

There are too many variables. It's a 15 year old performance car..... what were you really expecting?

Maybe you should have bought a Honda.....

Are you kidding?

From the very first hit:

"Under the law, a used car is one which satisfies all the following five conditions:
. . .
(2) It was purchased or leased from a New York dealer
. . ."

I know **** do happen. You must not be old enough to accept that when **** happens, sometime you have to suck it and deal with it instead of blaming others. You bought a car that you can't afford and now you are trying to take it back.

Look into why it blew up more than anything and try to make sure those variables dont occur again.

Nothing will make the engine bulletproof but you can get close.

it was a domino effect
belt snap, from there she over heated and melted the sensors. then when everything was replaced. i found out the the seal fried too, and now theres water going inside the combustion chamber! i most likely jacked up the housing too.

this would kill any car. bad situation worsend by the poor decision to drive the car when it was overheating.

hopefully the rebulid is well sorted. glwi

You should have done more research. For that money, IR Performance would have hooked you up with a stock rebuild and weeded out any bugs:

6. ARE PRIVATE SALES COVERED?
No. If you bought your car from a private
individual (rather than from a dealer) you are
not protected by the Used Car Lemon Law.
You should consult a lawyer for advice as to
other possible remedies. If the purchase price
was $5,000 or less, you may wish to pursue
your claim in Small Claims Court.

Melted the sensors? Which sensors?

Engine overheats are serious damage on these cars. If you didn't shut off the engine the moment the belt broke then running the engine after that moment certainly is what caused the overheat damage.

then when everything was replaced. i found out the the seal fried too, and now theres water going inside the combustion chamber! i most likely jacked up the housing too.
Yep, coolant seal failure. It's the reason why you should never attempt to drive an FD into an overheat situation.

I guess you've figured this by now but I don't expect anything about lemon law could apply here. You'd clearly stated how the belt was not broken when you bought it and that the break of the belt caused the overheat which caused the engine damage.

Now that you have a new engine do take the time to get to know the car and get up to speed on maintenance.

Dave

Regardless of what New York State law says, why in the name of baby Jesus should the previous owner be responsible for that?

A belt broke on a 15+ year old high performance sports car. I can only assume you had ample time to inspect the belts BEFORE you bought the car. And by your own admission you had a month to change them afterward if they needed it. YOU were driving when it overheated and didn't adequatly monitor the engine. That in turn, led to a coolant seal failure. Like trying to blame the previous owner for not noticing the tires were worn and getting a flat. I'm curious... in your mind how long should the previous owner warranty it for free? How many weeks will you own the car before feeling like it's 'fair' to assume the risk of ownership?
I would have had some sympathy for you if you hadn't started trying to lay this off on someone else. And then acuse other forum members of being too young to understand instead of man'ing up and dealing with it?
