Alchohol Injection

Does anyone have any experience with either alchohol or water or alchohol/water injection systems? I know that Grand National drivers have had great success with it on thier cars. It should work on the FD too, right?

I have a friend that's currently running it on his '93 MR2 Turbo, and it's working beautifully. I was also planning on getting that system when I get my 3rd gen, but I have one issue with the water kit on the 3rd gen.

Doesn't the 3rd gen squirt oil with the fuel mixture in the combustion process? If so, wouldn't the water intefrer with the oil and cause more headaches?

you should be able to find this under search -
aquamist in the UK is probably the best out there .
gmonson has experience with it in an FD as do several others here on the forum. there was a group buy a few months ago

I searched for it and found aquamist. There dont seem to be any application specific systems though. I had the same concerns about interferance with the oil injection.

i think the link is www.aquamist.co.uk
the idea is to put the nozzle near the TB intake (like on the elbow somewhere), u can use your windhield washer resevior for the water meth mix.

There is no "interference" issues, the oil, fuel and water nozzles are all independant. I have my aquamist nozzle just after the IC to allow enough distance for the water to mix with the charge air before entering the chambers at high RPM.
Between running a tad rich (~11.2:1 under boost), using a J&S and the aquamist I don't worry much about detonation

Many of the systems I have found use either achohol exclusively or a 50/50 isopropyl alchohol/water mix. What about interactions between the alchohol and the injected oil? I wonder if they react in any way to one another, and leave some sort of residue or something. Just trying to cover all contengencies.

i wondered too about shooting water into the cylinders (or rotors...) but it seems like a very well thought out system. i met David from Boosted Communications Group (Aquamist) in california, he's running water injection on his mr2 (it was in sport compact car a few months ago?). his car is sick, on the way back from the show in los angeles to san francisco, he beat a supercharged NSX, not bad for a MR2. i think it's a perfect thing to put on an FD, given our fabulous heating issues. it's definately on my wishlist of mods, as my modlist is very short for now.

silver93 - I don't have a pic at the moment, the car is stored in a rented garage miles from where I live. Next time I get it out I'll take a pic. It will be a few days since I am doing some cargo duty with the trusty old Volvo wagon.

WankelMeister - There are enough things to worry about on an FD without looking for imaginary problems. If using water/alchohol was a problem so many people wouldn't be using it. Just read up on the aquamist site about the technical details.

I believe Sport Compact Car had an arcticle about this. But they made their own kit which actually made sense. They used a pump off of an RV and just had a switch to turn it on. Obviously it isn't as high tech as these kits. I didn't quite understand the lot of the links but am I right in assuming that these kits have some sort of computer that engages the pumps when intake temps reach a certain level? If that is the case than you could possibly buy the computer off of them and hook it up to the pump. I am not sure if you would have to do some wiring, other than to the pump, or if it would even work.

I second that one! I would like to see an install on an FD.

I am trying to figure out a system for myself. I am not sure what I want to do. I am playing with the idea of putting in a 12vDC pump to pump the water to a high pressure (40psi) nozzle using a pressure sensor to actuate the pump. OR using an air tight tank to pressurize with the pressure off the intercooler ducts though a one-way valve to send the water to a low pressure nozzle (5psi).
Both nozzles atomize the water but they have very different flow rates. 1.2 gph for the low pressure and 6.xx for the high pressure.

any thoughts??
