Lightbulb Airpump Idea

I was working on our receptionist's car today, a 2002 Saturn SL 1.9L, and noticed that they have a really funky EGR that gets air from an electrical airpump. For those of you who want an airpump, but don't like the location/design of the stock pump, this could be an answer. It was maybe a little smaller than the stock mazda pump. I imagine it could be mounted anywhere that there was space. Just a thought.

P'cola,

You mean they pump exhaust gas into the intake manifold by means of an electrical pump? Doesn't make sense, since the pressure in the exhaust manifold is already higher than in the intake manifold; all you need is to valve it in...????????

No it's weird. It looks like they are pumping fresh air into the exhaust. Why, I don't know. I'll look for a picture.

I can't find an engine pic of one of these anywhere. Import convert, can you get a pic of one of these? And possibly a description of what they do?

What do you think the air pump on the FD does? It's to lengthen the life of the cat and reduce emissions. It would make sense that the saturn pump is for the same purpose.

Well don't I feel smart now. It being late, and me being tired, I was stuck on how much it looks like an EGR valve, and was thiking along the lines of that. To quote the great Homer Simpson, "Doh!"
