Air pump removal question?
It's time to change belts... is it okay to take the airpump off If I already took off my cats and replaced them with 3" pipes for both the down and mid.
ahhhhh if you are going to remove the stock cat and install a mid pipe, u MUST replace the stock ecu with a pettit or and other aftermarket. no bakc pressure when the computer expects it is bad bad bad...! you will have aboost spike and plow your rear seal.. just a little fyi for ya.

Thanks fellas... just got the POWER FC ECU and commander installed along with a boost control kit for the PFC... Gutted the exhaust and intakes... Ready to go prime time... just need tuning help now... Please check out my other thread titled "Power FC not talking to Boost control Kit". Thanks for the input again!
If you have an aftermarket ECU, open exhaust and never need to worry about passing smog tests, then by all means eliminate the airpump. You can also eliminate the ACV, EGR, their solenoids, and some pipes and hoses that are rendered useless without the airpump (of course some might argue that they were useless even from the factory).

Boost spikes are caused by overloading the wastegate (i.e. opening the exhaust and intake too much). You combat boost spikes by porting the wastegate or restricting the exhaust.

To reduce pump cavitation. Granted, this only applies to a very limited number of owners but ya asked.

Just got the Greddy pulley kit... It takes about 30 minutes to install (Including the front belt as well) It took me an hour from start to finish because I had to run to discount auto parts to get the front belt. It does come with a belt that is only big enough to take out the air pump. sO if anyone gets it and the want to keep the pump they will have to get two belts for replacement. It also comes with japanese directions (easy to follow from the pictures though). This was the easiest evolution I've ever done on my RX-7. Finally a mod that isn't a pain in the a-s!

- when I'm up there I usually don't have time to watch gauges anyway).
