Air Pump Removal Pros and Cons
I wanted to get opinions on the removal of the air pump from PEOPLE THAT ACTUALLY HAVE THEIRS REMOVED (not hear say)!! My concerns are whether removing the air pump is going to mess up my Bonez high flow cat or cause the car to put out smell, and excess smoke that could stain my bumper and am I really gaining any HP from the removal? I have read a lot of previous post and most of them talk about the removal, but they mostly have different set-ups than mine. My set-up includes DP, Bonez high flow cat, PFS cat back (exhaust side). I had the Greddy pulley set installed (looking for someone to polish them with quick turnaround time instead of the blue). I have the Power FC and my tuner has informed me that he has it idling perfect, so that’s not my big concern. I had to remove the air pump because I had the UNFRIENDLY air pump pipe for the ASP Medium Intercooler. Should I wait until the FRIENDLY air pump pipe comes in put the air pump back on then get it retuned or just go without the air pump. Oh, I don’t have to worry about emissions.
Thanks
Thanks

I'm confused...
So, you have no emissions to worry about but have high flow cat and worried what it might do to the high flow cat??
Seems like you already got rid of the airpump.
Let me say that air pump's sole purpose on FD's are to feed air to the cat to either help burn unburn fuel, dilute the exhaust so that you'll pass emission, or both.
Most aftermarket high flow cats do not have a line to the airpump. If your cats like that, then it really doesn't matter if you have one or not.
Pros and cons..
Pro: Less weight, Less clutter, One less thing that your engine has to pull
Cons: No cons unless you have to pass emission.
Hope this helps... If not, I'm sorry! Your tuner/installer should be able to answer this.

One big Con is definitely STINK. I just pulled my Bonez-style high flow last week and installed the SR Resonated Midpipe just before Steve Kan tuned it. After one week, I'm considering putting the high flow back in simply because of the stink at idle. The car has a much deeper tone at idle and is only slightly louder at steady state operation on the road. I'm fully modded running the Racing Beat dual tip catback. One other thing to note is that you'll likely need an aftermarket pulley kit and shorter belt. From what I've read, the stock pulleys (alt and water pump) will slip with a shorter belt, so keep in mind that you'll "likely" need to invest in this as well if you want to make the switch.

Idle Hunt????
Picked up car today and the engine bay looks so much simpler without the air pump. Car stated up and ran fine without any idle issues. Drove from NC to Savannah GA and first gas station I stopped at no idle issues, second stop was a rest area and when I pulled over from doing about 95 the whole way the car started searching for idle (like my Stang used to be famous for). It would go from about 750-850. Not enough to cut off but enough for me to notice it. I also lost about two pound of vacuum (18 down to 16) at idle but I heard that this was normal. I haven’t noticed any smell yet, but I know the idle issue is going to drive me crazy. It only did it one more time out of the three stops I made after the first time, so I will be watching and posting results.
