You can't just remove the airpump. Unless you have a greddy airpump elimination pulley set, or a shorter belt (sorry don't remember the number right now) to go around the alt and waterpump But it is very easy. Remove the hoses, remove the belt around the pulley, unbolt it and out it comes.

Do you intend to eliminate it from the car or just remove it?

If you just want to take it out to do work you'll also need to loosen the alternator adjustment. On my car with the airpump slider loosened and the alt bracket lowered all the way there is just barely enough slack.

if you just want to eliminate it, you can just swap in the belt and pulleys and not run a belt to the pump.... thus bypassing the pumpt

If you want to remove it completely then yeah, you just unbolt it.

That plug that comes out of the top of your motor is the line that runs to the cat, I would not recommend removing the air pump until you have replaced your stock catylac converter --- if you remove it and you have the stock cat, you will clog it.

if you don't plug/remove it, you will essentially have an exhaust leak out of it.

r u sure about this. From what i remember seeing on the line that runs to the cat there is something like a check valve in there to prevent flow in one direction. That or it was a little muffler type thing

my fd already had it removed, if there's a check valve in it then you should be ok.

noone on here would recomend going with a shorter belt only, as the waterpump pulley is too smooth and sometimes slips with this method, and a not fully functional waterpump, would not be a good idea.

no.

yes, there is a "check valve" of sort on the muffler, that prevents exhaust gas from coming out that pipe, otherwise when the airpump wasnt running, gasses would back flow into it

if you still have a pre-cat you deffinatly do not need to be worrying about removing the airpump untill you get a downpipe.

now if your talking about your main cat (and you just mistyped) then you dont have to remove it to eliminate the airpump, but it really wont do much more than free up some space in your engine bay.
