air pump removal?

what exactly does the air pump on an FD do after you go with an aftermarked DP? does it pump air to the main cat/midpipe?

is there any reason not to remove it?

thanks

air pump gives air for the AWS and also the main cat. you need to eliminate the AWS and get a midpipe then you will no longer need the air pump

If you have a midpipe, there is no need for the air pump. If you still have a main cat, whether stock or hi-flo, then you should keep the air pump.

Easy, there is 2 bolts holding it on that you just have to take off. Then take off the belt, replace it and then slide the airpump off. There is some stuff in the way such as the intake pipes but you just remove whatever is in the way take off the airpump and then replace it all.

air pump removal

Get the Greddy pulley kit, it's made to remove the airpump with new short belts.

Did mine 2 weeks ago, will never go back.

there is more to it than that , several blocking plates need to be made and hoses removed.I watched Garfinkle remove one and he did more than just remove the air pump .Look for more info on this .he took out lots of stuff which cleaned up the area.

can somebody please post a link to where they bought the shorter replacement belt that runs tangent to the water pump after you removed the air pump...

i have been using a belt from kragen for a few months now (30.5" i believe) and even at the tightest setting, it squeals on startup.

thanks in advance.

My belt squeals on start up as well. I used a 300k4 or 30" 4 rib from autozone. You really need a 300k5 (5 rib)...but I could not find one. Maybe that is why it squeals. My idle also changed some too.
