air pump problem

the air pump on my 93 was making a horrible noise, so i removed the fuse to deactivate the clutch. i did this about 100 miles ago and i have noticed no adverse effects. I am just wondering if i should be worried about any future complications? Thanks!

not 100%, but i believe that after a while the stock cat can burn out without the extra little bit of air.

You've effectively turned it into an idler pulley. It won't effect your engine directlly, but Kyleaudio is right, if you're still running the stock cat, it's life will be shortened. Doesn't seem to bother a more modern hi-flow. If you have emissions in your State, you'll probably have difficulty passing.
I understand you haven't noticed any problems, but for the benefit of others who might read this, that doesn't seem to be universal IF they're still on the stock ECU. Poor idle and hesitation have been complaints.

Used air pumps are easy to find and inexpensive to buy in the "Parts for Sale" section, excluding shipping. And they're not that hard to change.

Too bad your a little far south in Missouri. I get down to the Topeka/Lawrence/KC area once or twice a year. Won't ship, but I'd give you mine (~ 85k miles on it) for the price of a cold beer.

Air pumps, regardless of the vehicle application are designed for one purpose - emisions.
They inject air into the cat to heat it up faster during a cold startup, or upon initial acceleration. The cat however is then designed around this stupid piece of tree hugging hippies, so without the airpump, the converter life is well diminished. I believe i have one in my attic, PM me, and i'll look up cost to ship (i don't have any use for it).

Just send them out to be rebuilt.
