Question Air Pump Belt Question

When I purchased my car the previous owner removed the air pump for reasons unknown to me and I would like to reinstall it. The rough idle is driving me crazy! Anyway, I purchased the air pump from another member on the forums but I am not quite sure what belt to buy. Can someone point me in the direction as to the type of belt and maybe even a store that sells it? Thanks in advance.

Do you know if the previous owner also used an Air Pump Removal kit (which replaces the Alternator and Water Pump pullies)?

If not, you can just order a stock belt from Mazda. If there is a pulley kit on it, you'll need to use a string and find the exact length that you need; then see if you can find something that will work.

I will send him a PM now, if he did use the removal kit what do you mean by using a string?

You use a string to measure the length of the belt route. Basicly, you trace the belt route using a string. Once you have the route laid out, you measure the length of the string and then you have the belt length (approx) needed.

So what do I have to connect? I know about the belt and the tube to the cat. Where does the front tube connect to? And what about the wire next to it? Unless I missed something, the shop manual didn't give me too much information.

If you really study the manual, it does show all of it, but not necessary in one area of the manual. Read all of the engine teardown section, and rebuild along with section F.

There use to be some online Parts Manuals also that will help you learn.

You will also need the ACV that bolts uder the upper intake manifold assuming he removed it and blocked it off.
