Air conditioning removal Question

I am thinking about taking out my air conditioning for two reasons. One my buddy accidentally let the refrigerant leak out of a bolt he undid for 8-10 seconds so I think it may need to be recharged. Two, I was looking at the condenser in front of the rad and it looks like it restricts a lot of air flow to the rad. I would like to know if taking it out will make much difference in cooling and will I run into electrical problems? Is there a write up on this somewhere? Thanks

The reason its there is to cool the passanger compartment down when it is hot outside. No other reason. Vancouver dosn't get that hot.

I plan on taking mine out. I have no need for it in WI. It just takes up space in the engine compartment. I can't see how this would cause any eletrical problems. AC systems weigh a lot. I say ditch it.

I am planning to take out my A/C too since I don't use it much, it doesn't get that hot in Toronto and I want to take my weight reduction abit further, I already removed all the plastics and carpets behind the seats so it is loud inside the car.

How much do you think it will effect the cars cooling. And I hear some where you have to jumper some wires to let the computer think it is still there.

removing your ac will not produce electrical gremlins...if your going to do this yourself dont vent to atmosphere...have a shop purge it for u..

it will help with your cooling...you'll be gaining air flow volume in the engine bay .. your just going to need some patience if your looking to do the whole system...downside...your rad is now susceptible to rocks...

you'll also need a new belt without that compressor

imo the weight savings is minimal...

belt needed is a 360k6. like amp said, minimal weight saving. compressor cant weigh more than 10lbs,(cant exactly remember how it felt in my hand, but it was light) lines weigh NOTHING, and condensor removed will subject rad to rocks. i have mine standing straight up right now with a fmic in front of it, so i dont have to worry about that, but it is something to consider.
you asked if there is any writeup on this....use the search function, i KNOW you are not the only one on this forum who has EVER asked this question.

YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE POWER STEERING PUMP TO GET TO THE A/C LINE. AFTER YOU GET THE POWER STEERING PUMP OUT OF THE WAY YOU CAN SEE THE COMRESSOR BETTER, YOU SHOULD DISCONNET THE TWO A/C PRESSURE LINE THAT GOS INTO THE COMRESSOR SO ITS EASIER TO TAKE OUT THE COMPRESSOR. IF YOUR BATTERY IS IN THE WAY YOU SHOULD REMOVE THAT TOO. IF YOU WANT TO REMOVE ALL OF THE A/C LINE YOU HAVE TO TAKE YOU AIR BOX OUT AND INTERCOOLER OUT. TO REMOVE THE COMPRESSOR THERES 4 OR 5 14mm BOLT I THINK?

there are 4- 14mm bolts. you DO NOT have to remove PS, unless you want to take your jolly old time. just remove battery.

the caps lock button is right next to the "A" on the keyboard.

IC and power steering pump NOT required to be removed...you just need the right tools and patience.....

Does the radiator need to be taken out to get the condensor out?

Thanks,
Steve

I didn't!!!

Pulling out was easy as hell. I mounted my battery in the back, disconnected my AC and Power steering, smoked 4 cigarettes and still did it all in under 2 hours.

so removing the a/c is not going to affect the car positively or negatively, its just if you want to?

I think it frees up some horsepower and cleans up the engine bay. The car can loose about 80 lbs, if everyhting is taken out.

Did you weigh it? Taking everything out saves more weight then you would think.
