Aging harness issues and such

So, I got my first rejection sticker ever on my fd, and it was because my blinkers didn't work while the car wasn't running (key on acc) and my hazards randomly stopped working. Of course they worked today just fine. Such is life. It brings up the question of are we all just repairing our old harnesses or is there a place that rebuilds them or even sells them? I did the cursory google search but didn't really see anything. It's obvious that mine needs some refreshing if accessories like hazards and my horn at times are not working intermittently.

Thanks in advance.

Engine harnesses you have plenty of options. All the other stuff you would have build yourself. The hazard light issue can be rooted with a problem in the flasher relay. The f100 or f110 relay under the steering column. Its a large black rectangle box. There is someone who repairs them but I'm not entirely sure who.

Flasher relay is in the black CPU #2. I doubt it's wiring, that's a super basic circuit, most likely a problem with the flasher relay in the CPU.

^Your problem is in bold/italics above - the signal blinkers only operate with the key in the "start/run" positions, not ACC. Have the idiot inspector re-test it correctly and you should pass that part.

For the flasher problem, the answer Dale provided is most likely on point. Unfortunately the flasher relay is integrated with the CPU#2 black box, and that relay is not easily replaceable by itself - some skill & soldering would be required. So your best bet is to try to find a new or a known good used CPU#2 and swap it in to test/fix. If that solves all of your flasher and other problems, you don't need to worry about the wiring harness.

I honestly have just assumed it's been my harness because i've been having so many other electrical gremlins like my horn not working at times, blinkers not working while car is off (but key on), and even my headlights/parking lights not turning on once in a while. It just seems like a lot. I'll check out the relay though.

When that starts to go does it go intermittent? This morning my hazards worked, and my blinkers worked with the key in the acc position. Also, I do think I have a wire exposed somewhere. I washed the car this morning and it started stuttering and I pulled a check engine light. None of the places that the relays are got wet. The only place that got wet was the part of the harness that's right at the front of the hood by the hood latch. Last time this happened I let the car sit it the sun and dry and it ended up fine again. I'm taking the car out in a few and we'll see if it is back to normal again.

if the CEL came on, pull the code and see what it is, then you know what system to look at
