Re: More clarity - not twin 35/40s, yes the fast idle hose leaks boost

As far as the fast idle hose, it does vent boost - you could see the water vapor coming out of it. I hit a wall at 12 lbs of boost because of it. Once we clamped it off, I jumped up to 16 lbs. Maybe others don't have this problem because they've done something different, but I know I had it, and replumbing it back into the Greddy elbow fixed it.

not saying you are wrong but there are thousands of peole that simply pull the hose out, put a filter on it and call it a day.

wow...i need to replumb..how are u gonna do that?

Replumb - weld nipple on Greddy elbow

We just welded a nipple on the Greddy elbow where the stock nipple used to be and plugged the hose back on. Works great, looks clean.

Maybe something's different about my car - if others don't have a boost leak because of it, more power to them. Mine leaked - who knows? Just test yours to see if you have the same issue. If you are leaking, the problem is that you are overspinning your turbos to make boost. Depending upon the boost levels you run, you might not even notice it. If I didn't run more than 12 lbs I would never have picked up on it.

Upgraded twins did 113.94 mph

Went to the drags last night - the tuning did improve top-end in the quarter by 3 mph, from 110.9 to 113.94. I didn't really improve my ETs because I suck as a drag driver (car_53 sas I shift way too slow, I guess I dont 'shift mad quik,yo') but it's the only place I can legally do full wot runs anymore without getting into serious trouble.

My logs show that I'm still rich, and the tuner has yet more adjustments to make. Doing this over email has got to be tough for him, but he is making progress, and I'm appreciative.

Further updates to come after we get it dialed in more.

i don't understand why you have to tune by e-mail? don't you have a pfc and commander, why don't you just do it yourself?

Because I'm dumb :-)

Actually, it's not that I'm dumb ... I'm ignorant - yes, I have all the tools (wideband, dataloggit, etc), but I'm a novice on how to use them. I know what are good afrs for a certain boost range, and I have general ideas about timing, intake temp correction, etc. , but I've found someone that I feel has much better knowledge on these matters than I do, and that person has kindly offered to help me in my efforts.

Anyone can hook up these tools and get the data, but what to do with the information once they have it is another story. This person has quickly demonstrated that they know more than me. I've found that for some things, it's better to lever someone else's knowledge rather than learn it myself (farmers are a good example - yes, I could have a garden and and expend all the effort to learn about proper agricultural techniques, but I'd rather just have someone else own that part and I'll do something they need and don't have the skills for in return).

I take no shame in admitting that I don't know how to use the information and don't have the time to learn. It would be even dumber of me to try and do it and blow my motor up since I don't have the ability to rebuild that, either.

I'm currently trying to get a custom twin turbo setup too, I understand what you're going through. Good luck with gettin gwhat you want. Let me guess, your friend at Stillen is Kenny? Tell him I said hi.

Not Stillen - and motor gave up

Well, I'm not working with anyone at Stillen....

Update - I grenaded the motor <sigh>. I believe I accidentally did only a 'partial load' of a map and the mix-mash of settings = motordeath. So, after 6K miles, I get to do another rebuild. However, it did give us an opportunity to see how the new turbos were holding up.

The internals looked quite nice. I noticed there is some extra porting work I can do on the snails to get ever so slightly more flow, so I'm going to take the opportunity to do that. However.....

When we pulled the turbos, the custom welding for thw second wastegate is almost gone - it was peeling off the cast iron. We're back to the drawing board with the turbo builder. Either he needs to weld with more durable materials, or we may have to abandon the second wastegate and just port the standard one.

God damn cars....
