Aftermarket gauges with stock orange color backlight?

Hey,

I currently have a set of Greddy gauges with the orangey-red backlight that's identical to the dash, but the backlight on the boost gauge has died, and both of the temp gauges are now on the fritz. I'm getting to that point where I'm done trying to keep them limping on their last leg, and now want to just replace them.

Does anyone know who currently produces black faced, white lettered, orange-red backlit gauges?

Autometer Sport-Comp with red bulb cover, their color is exactly the same as the stock gauges.

These are my Sport-Comps, I liked the way the font matched up, and yea with a red bulb cover they'd be pretty darn close.

^ Same here. They match very well when lit up. They are quality and look great!!!

I'll add, I'm shifting away from a lot of gauges. With the Power Commander, and it's new OLED counterpart, I can easily view most important metrics. I have it mounted using the cigarette lighter plug with a nice gripper. PLX has released their new smart gauge that will be used to display my A/F and Egt's. A single pod on my steering column.

I find that the A-pillars make it hard to see around left hand turns. My dash gauges are nice, but a bit out of my view.

The Greddy turbo timer is long gone...

VDO gauges with orange bulb covers match the interior light perfectly.

Awesome service, product, warranty and price. They can pretty much make or match anything you desire.

I've always loved the way that the Defi Racer series looked, but after being burned a second time, I'm kind of hesitant to throw down the cash.

My Defi Boost gage that came with the car died a few years into owning the car (mostly due to shoddy placement of the link controller), and now my 3 Greddies are eating it.

Anyone have long term experience with the Prosports? They look pretty nice, and the price point is really enticing. I'm usually a 'buy once, cry once' kinda guy, but it's kind of tough to look at gauges as long term investments lately.

And thanks to everyone for the help.

Mmmmm....had my relatively inexpensive Defi 'D' series gauges for several years now with no issues. They match just like those Racer series.

I have had flawless operation of the Defi Racer Gauges for years in my 3 rotor FD and 13b-re Vert. Additionally, there is no link control unit to fail.

If you are burning through high end gauges I would be looking at the power supply or grounds for the gauges. Having a gauge failing is one thing, but to have 3 greddy gauges die at once is not indicative a manufacturing defect, but an installation issue.

I've been using the prosport mechanical boost and electric oil pressure gauges for about two years now. Both work just as well as when installed.

One word of advice:

When setting them up they come with instructions on how to make them either white-lit, orange-lit or both. Initially I wired them up to be orange lit at all times but I found them difficult to read during the day. I rewired (quite easy) to be white-lit during the day and once I turn on my parking lights they switch to orange-lit.

Much easier to see as white-lit during the day and at night they blend in perfectly to the stock gauges.

When the car is off they're smoked lenses so you see nothing

I'm not sure what it could be in terms of install.

The power supply is coming off of the same 12v line as my head unit. The backlight is powered off of the headlight switch. The ground seems fairly solid. My multimeter shows that the gauges are getting essentially battery voltage. The line has a fuse via the accessory fuse box.

At this point, I'm willing to redo all of the wiring if that's what it takes. I just wish I knew what it is that was going wrong. I haven't done it just yet, but I'll check the actual detectors, but as far as I can tell, their output is all normal.

The thing that blows my mind is that they're getting power, and the backlight is working, but the two temperature gauges are not doing their normal boot sequence/needle sweeps. I'll be elbows deep in my car today, so I'll see what I can find.

As for the Defi Racers, they may be something that I pick up after the rest of the project is done, but for now they're a little more than I want to spend. Especially if I've hosed something up and I'm not frying gauges like it's my job.

Anyone have anything else to say about the ProSports? I think they look pretty nice, and the price is right...

The Marshall Instruments SCX look good. Any experience as to whether or not the backlight color matches the factory amber/orange?

One more thing. The gauges operated fine for 4 years or so. It was after moving back to VA and having to park the car in blistering heat that the problems started. I don't think any of these pieces are that heat sensitive, but they are sitting on the dash in the FlyRX7 center speaker mounts so, they are seeing quite a bit of sun...

The Marshall Instruments SCX look good, but I wish that the scale could be ordered a bit lower. No point with a 30psi upper scale when boosting 10psi in most driving and 14psi max IMO. I think the Speedhut can be ordered with a 15psi scale, I will probably be going this route soon for my car.

2-1/16" Boost/Vac Gauge 30inhg-0-15psi (w/ warning). Auto Warning Light From Speedhut.
