adjusting ignition timing

this is probably a really stupid question, but maybe some other people dont know either....

i have a Haltech EMS that i got off of a friend's car and installed onto mine. When i start it up, I want to run a timing light on it to make sure that the ignition timing is the same for what the haltech says to what the engine is really seeing.....basically that both are dead on with each other the best i can get it.

my question/problem is: how do i adjust the timing (mechanically) so that if/when they do NOT coincide i can adjust it so they are the same....???

dont tell me to search around....i searched and got a headache and didnt really find anything to answer this.

thanks,

On the FD there is no way to adjust timing other than ecu modification.

there has to be some way to adjust the crank pulley or what not to make sure that 0* on engine is also 0* for the haltech......

Why do you think they aren't lined up?

jsut trying to find reasons why engine went "KA-boom..."

its one of many possibly reasons i came up with....

and, when exchanging maps, it helps to have the timing on par and correct

I haven't heard of the timing being mechanically adjustable before, but I'm not an expert either.

Ther is no way to adjust mechanically without reworking the crank pulley/ encoder. Its all done in the ECU based on the fixed inputs provided by the crank angle sensor.

exactly

so if you were to put the pulley on wrong or somehow have it set differently than another FD, then things "could" get all messed up and you could end up with different results and true timing at the engine.
