So let us look at buses. Now this is from when I used the bus YEARS ago but I doubt anything has changed.
Airbag. . . Nope
seatbelts. . . nope
Seats in general. . .some kids can't even touch the floor with their feet
Head room . . . I think plenty of kids have experienced their head hitting the roof after a big bump.

It doesn't take much training to become a bus driver either (NO OFFENSE TO THEM).

FD is perfectly fine with children if the rear seats are installed properly. Kids under 12 are probably SAFER in the back seat too especially on airbag equipped FDs.
School bus drivers drive slow, or well they're supposed to. I have yet to see a school bus haul *** because the kids were running late for school.

Also look at the mass of the bus. If 5 cars hit it, the cars would get destroyed and the people in them. The kids in the school bus would slide around a bit from the impact, probably bump into the kid next to them and thats that.

You could have a safety bubble with 12 seatbelts in the back of the FD. If you get into a major accident.......

...thats a closed casket funeral for all passengers, including those poor kids.

^ Getting off topic here but school bus collisions were big news a while back. A lot of questions about their safety and repair records. Look it up on Google if you've never heard about it. Here's a recent one.

I'm getting at I'd rather have my child in the FD over a school bus. Thread is about the OP using FD rear seats to transport his kids to school and I think that's OK. Drive responsibly and it's fine. Thats all.

You're right.

It is possible to fit kids in the backseats of an FD then.

But is it safe? Hell no.

Drive responsibly? You could be michael schumacher, all it takes is one idiot who isnt driving responsibility smack into you.

And i would put the FD owner/parent at fault for that. Kids shouldnt be back there.

Ok, SO my back seat is for my friggin dog. My kids are shuttled everywhere they go in a Sherman Tank to ensure that they are never ever ever at risk. When they return home from school(which is 2 miles underground) they are placed back in their bubbles... cool is everyone happy now?

Also, I had no idea the FD was made of clay, sticks and water. I had no idea that the Japanese would design a car that they put 4 seats but was never intended to be 'safe'... those evil Japanese, where is our class action attorney when we need them??

I don't see how putting a person in the back seats of an FD is anymore dangerous than having someone in the front seat. Remember, these are OEM manufactured seats from Mazda, not some aftermarket seat kit made by a fly-by-night company.

Does anyone have any definitive proof that the rear seat is more dangerous than the front seats, like accidents and crash safety tests from Japan? Or is everyone just spouting hearsay and what "they think" would be the result?

Look, there is always a risk no matter what whenever you shuttle yourself or anyone else in a car, period. So does this mean you shouldn't let your kids ride in a car, ever? This is pretty ridiculous.
