ACV Elimination while keeping the air pump

OK..... with my recent emissions test failure I've decided to go ahead and do the vacuum simplification job since I believe I have a vacuum leak, and I might as well simplify things while I look for it.

I would like to completely remove my ACV and use a block off plate, but by doing this I know my factory air pump connection would no longer work. SO my question is this:

Can I just run a line straight from the air pump to the air pump connection downstream under the car? I'm going to have the air pump on until I pass smog, then it will be gone until next year's test.

Will this work to pass emissions?

I'm not sure if my ACV is even functioning properly, so I figured I might as well remove it while I'm doing the simplification so it isn't even a question, so long as I can run a line straight from the air pump. Also, for those who have done the line straight to the connection in the exhaust, how / where did you run the air line?

If I actually go through with this setup, I'll be sure to take photo documentation of it. I just want to get rid of as much as I can under the UIM while still being able to pass smog once a year. I figure doing it this way, it should be no problem at all.

Remember that in stock form the acv also meters in some air into the intake stream to lean out the idle on the engine and clean it up.

So it would be a bad idea to remove it then when I do the simplification? I guess I can just pick up a new one from someone on the board and replace it for the hell of it. I'll completely remove it once I pass I guess.

I just assumed that since some guys get rid of all their emissions besides the cat and use an electric air pump that it might still work if I do a little routing.

IT can work, you can eliminate it. But your idle gets rougher and richer, which would probably fail you for emissions even though your cat is working. Try it and find out?

LOL I guess that is one way of seeing

I might just swap in another ACV to pass, then remove it afterwards with my air pump and the cat. I just wanted to get rid of as much as I can when I clean up the vacuum setup.

if you have a stand alone, go electric (air pmp) and re-tune your idle.

Yes, you can route it straight to the cat. As pointed out, it would be much better to have a standalone ecu to adjust idle with.

I'm still on the stock ECU so I guess I'll have to use the ACV for smog purposes if it will ruin my fuel ratio at idle.

Thanks for the input guys, I'll just get a functioning ACV.

Last question..... in the regular vacuum diagram, which solenoid name is for the ACV? I wasn't sure as it isn't clear on that part. Thanks
