ACK! Puddle of fuel under the car..
So I get home last night (my car was running extremely well..must be the weather) and park in my driveway.
Get in the car to go out tonight, starts just like normal, everything is copacetic. With Freakdaddy blaring, I rolled back out of the driveway, and there is a big stain on the ground (maybe 1 ounce). I have a tiny oil leak, so I always look as I leave anywhere, and check oil when I fill up with fuel. I pull the ebrake, and get out to go look at the offending puddle, (and get the kitty litter) I figured I blew my turbo oil line again or screwed something up in my last oil change. Lo and Behold..
ITS RAW FUEL!!!!!!
I run to the car and turn it off, and proceed to push it back up the driveway.
I didn't see any tell tales signs of it leaking up into the driveway (as in from last night.. no little trails up the street/driveway). No splashing or any fuel splattered around under the hood, so this would rule out injectors right? It didn't leak from being pressurized and idling for 2 mins or so. Opening the hood I smell fuel, but there is not more on the ground a few hours later.
Im thinking FPD or return line.. Any suggestions?
The UIM is coming off tomorrow if I get a chance, as I don't have the labor money to dish out.
Im planning on doing:
the fuel lines under the UIM (Are there 3?)
vacuum lines
FPD
injector O-rings
plug wires and plugs
balance and clean injectors
Anything else I should do while I'm under there? Anything obvious I left out? I searched and read most of the threads and they all seem to coincide on the parts to change, but I want to make sure all my ducks are in a row. 86k on the car, 22k on the (supposed) RP rebuild.
Thanks for any/all advice you can offer. Sorry for the length of the post.

I'd surely check the FPD first. It went out on my '93 VR and it dumped fuel. Although when it went on mine it was really DUMPING fuel. Left a huge damned puddle. But maybe yours is just giving you fair warning before it goes completely. Best of luck to you.

I have a thread going on changing out the hoses and Jonski recommended to replace the FPD...if you are in the middle of a hose job then no big deal but if you have to weed through the solenoid rack to get to the FPD it's gonna be a pita...if you are not mechanically enclined I would say take it to a rotary specialist...But you can check it though...you will have to take off the UIM and look to the side of the primary injector housing.
Good luck dude...
Really don't envy you..

Oh, here's the link if you want to see what the FPD (fuel pulsation dampner) looks like and where it is

I didn't think about it last night, but what gaskets am I likely to need? I figure
TB O-ring
Upper/lower IM gasket
ACV gasket
I haven't started the job yet, reading all the posts I can find about it.. I kind of dread it. I am an ok mechanic but my tools are crap. No special tools involved in this job though, correct?

I just checked my garage and I have a puddle of fuel under my car.
The car has been sitting for 2 days with no signs and now this.
If it is the FPD does it really let out this much fuel with the car just sitting?
Do the fuel lines hold enough pressure that it would let go after sitting 2 days?

thats not paint....
The same thing happened to me, FPD. I did it with only replacing the UIM gasket. You do have to remove the AVC but removing once shouldnt be a big deal on the gasket. I still have a rock stable idle and I didn't replace the gasket. I have 0 tool action and I managed to pull it off. Nice needle noses are good to have and maybe a good pair of vice grips if you are planning to remove the solenoid rack. All the screws holding mine in wouldn't come out (stripped) so I had to use vice grips on them.

don't race, don't need to
Don't forget there are o-rings associated witht he FPD and the fuel pressure regulator (at the end of the secondary fuel rail) that oughta be replaced as well....
Good thing you got out and checked that puddle, huh?

Unbelivable how much gas was sitting on the of the engine.
The mazda engineers should be shot.
Talk about PITA.
Now comes the hard part putting it all back together.
Hopfully my brittle wireing harness didnt short somewhere.
